One tragic thing about watching Hackers now is realizing how much lighting in film has degraded. The movie has a lot of scenes that were shot in dark environments, but you can see well at all times. The important parts of a scene will be highlighted and the colors are true, even when the environment isn't as bright.
Nowadays you have a lot of monochrome where nothing is highlighted. It's like "This scene is ominous, that's why we put a dark tint on it. What's the focal point? Go fuck yourself."
