Note- Sorry it took so long to get to this story. I've been struggling with things and life's been pretty hard for me but I am so happy I finally got to write this story. It took me days to write it. I tried but it's been like a whole year or two since I wrote a story so bear with me.
You sat there at your vanity after a long hot bath now sitting applying your lipstick to your lips while your sister was doing your hair for you.
You spoke as she pulled your hair a bit to hard trying to get it flat on the top so it didn't look messy.
"Sorry but it's gotta look perfect Y/N you know that"
She spoke with a nice voice. Your sister was always the pretty one in the family and most loved out of you two. She got everything handed to her for having stronger magic, better looks, and just being so perfect at everything while you were more of the problem causer in the family, always getting in fights like you had something to prove or running off from home to go do whatever you wanted. You knew it drove your mom nuts doing that but you were by far pretty careless and quite adventurous.
"Why do we gotta go to this stupid ball thing anyways?"
"Cause mom loves these events and wants you to be more lady like Y/N. That's why"
You felt kind of annoyed while putting on the last touch of makeup.
"Ew not that color Y/N. Go classy like that nice light brown"
Your sister finished your hair and had taken your makeup from your hand and started applying it herself to your face. The annoyance you felt was definitely growing. Once your makeup your sister pulled out the dress she bought you for the dance which was a long White and light blue off the shoulder dress and you hated it. She helped you get into it tightening the corset before tying it off.
"See it looks so good on you"
"oh stop whining Y/N you look good"
You strongly disagreed with her though, You felt like a clown going to a circus just to make a fool of yourself.
"Where is mom anyways isn't she going?"
"She went to go talk to somebody, But yeah she will be there don't worry"
"I hope shes not trying to hook me up with some stupid man"
"And if she is? You need a man anyways Y/N"
"Hahaha yes you do now come on before were late!"
She grabbed your hand and booked it out to the carriage.
When you both arrived the place was beyond crowded with music playing, people holding drinks, dancing, talking, enjoying themselves. You slipped on your mask and went to the drinks getting a glass of white wine before sitting down at a empty table away from everybody. You sat there plotting how to leave without getting caught by anybody since you really didn't have any interest being there at all.
While you drank your wine you were approached by a man who held his hand out to you. He was wearing a nice mask that covered his left eye fully, wore a nice white and red suite, long light purple hair, had a nice smile to him.
He asked politely but you could almost see it. He was tense. Was he nervous or something you couldn't tell but deep down you really wanted to deny dancing with him but god damn was he actually attractive with his smile and pretty blue eye, tall too.
You said taking his hand and letting him lead you to the dance floor and for a split second you swore you seen his smile drop from the small view you had of part of his face while he led you. His smile came back into play though when he faced you and pulled you close to him. He smelled amazing too. You both made eye contact as you both started dancing together and, well, You were questioning yourself right now.
This was not you at all, You were a trouble maker, a fighter, a reckless adventurous girl not a lover who would fall for some dumb man especially one you just met, You don't know his name nothing at all, so what the hell were you doing right now.
He said and his voice really made your skin cold.
"Mhmm I find that hard to believe sweetheart"
He whispered in your ear making your insides warm up by his voice in your ear. You felt your self spiral a little bit mentally from his words. How did he know? you wondered. Were you being obvious and he caught it?. You just gave a slight scoff to him with a smile eye roll.
"I'm not... Whats your name anyways?"
He spun you with one hand and pulled you close to him again, placing his hand on your waist moving with one step at a time following the flow of everybody else around you two.
"Do you always attend these?"
"Oh and why is it so unfortunate?"
"My mom thinks I need to be more lady like, Like I think I'm fine how I am but she disagrees and calls me a problem, Like how am I a problem..."
You stopped yourself immediately realizing you were rambling on about your family matters to a man you just met. You could see his jaw tighten a bit but he quickly smiled gently again. You felt dumb spilling out like that when he spoke up breaking your thought.
"How about a break. Perhaps we can get a drink"
"Yeah that's a good idea"
He held your hand softly as he led you off the dance floor towards to where the wine was and got you both a drink and handed a glass to you. Taking it from him you took a sip and when you went to say something you noticed him looking at everyone that was around with a slightly annoyed expression on his face.
"Yeah I'm fine I don't really do these events either"
He said it calmly with a sigh as he looked at you almost like something was on his mind and he wasn't willing to say. You didn't know but Rades did have something on his mind and was keeping it to himself and you just figured it was best to not mention it to him. Rades led you to a table, pulling a chair out for you and once you sat down he pushed your chair in for you.
"Would you like something to eat?"
"I could use some food yeah"
"Umm how about Chicken marsala for me"
Rades walked off grumbling to himself. He hated this so much as this was not who he was at all but he had a mission to do and he needed you to trust him, he needed to get you alone with him. Rades clenched his fists tightly as he walked to the food table that had all kinds of food on it when he seen someone staring at him from the corner of his eye before walking away.
Rades got both your plates made and put on his nice guy face before walking back and set your plate in front of you before sitting down with his.
"So if you don't do these type of things why are you here?"
"Figured I'd give it a try"
"You don't like it do you?"
He responded while taking a bite of his food not bothering to look at you at all as he ate. It was almost like he was having doubts about something, you could see it in his face as he wasn't doing a very good job at hiding it at all. You started to laugh a bit as you took a bite of food and he looked at you finally.
"Honestly same I hate these, I'd rather be outside doing literally anything else."
"Yeah you started that already'
"You know you don't have to act like you enjoy being here"
He looked down at his food deep in thought now. You wanted him to just be himself and not put on this mask at all.
Rades muttered and when he looked back up at you and you smiled at him, It did something to him. Was he falling for you? that's not possible he didn't do romance or anything like that so why was he feeling so strange about you? He couldn't understand it, What the hell were you doing to him?.
"So what kind of magic do you have Rades?"
"Wait really? that's actually cool as hell"
Why were you not judging him for his magic? everyone else did since his magic was looked at as creepy, disturbing yet here you are, calling it cool looking so unbothered when he told you.
After a few hours of dancing, chatting and being close to each other Rades was really starting to fall hard for you. You were more like him with mild differences than he would've ever thought and to think he had to kill you and now he was struggling with a battle that was in his heart that was normally cold, uncaring. During the dance Rades couldn't help it, he needed to.
When you looked at him he grabbed your face and before you knew it his mouth was on yours. Your eyes widened in absolute shock as he kissed you right there in the middle of the dance floor. You caught a glance of your mom and sister both watching you before you closed your eyes and put your arms around him, feeling him hold you tighter as it felt like time itself had stopped and everything around you both had fell quiet for a minute before Rades pulled away from the kiss as all the noise came flooding back in while your heart pounded in your chest as you both looked at each other.
Nothing in that room mattered anymore except for this man who had from the beginning taken your hand and asked you to dance. You felt so weird but like a good type of weird like this man just grabbed your heart out of your chest and took it for himself and would never give it back. You weren't this type of person but he made you this way and wasn't sorry for it. Rades gave you a small smirk before pulling you back into dance with him a bit roughly with a quick turn before bending you back, pulling you back up to him, moving with a quick step at a time as the music had picked up a bit.
Rades was dancing a bit rough now and the look on his face, smile gone, looked more focused, more serious, as he pulled on you harshly. He looked so frustrated now, like his whole demeanor changed like a flipped of a switch before he pushed you away a bit hard before walking away through the crowed. You were confused on what the hell just happened. One minute ago he kissed you and was looking at you like you were an angel he needed in his life then that out of nowhere.
You pulled yourself together quickly and went after him.
You yelled out following after him as he headed towards the balcony. Rades walked up to the railing and grabbed it hard feeling so angry with himself for what he was feeling for you, how you got under his skin so much, how he kissed you like that. You walked up and seen him standing there with a tense posture, hands holding the rail till his knuckles turned white.
"Rades what's going on seriously?"
"I'm not going to till you tell me what the hell that was about!"
You could see him getting angry but you weren't going to back off. You wanted answers from him.
"I WAS SENT TO KILL YOU.... HAPPY NOW!"
He watched your face drop to shock and betrayal. He couldn't pull himself to go through with it though and it made his heart twist seeing that look on your face.
You muttered out while in absolute disbelief.
"You just said you were supposed to kill me Rades how am I supposed to not worry about it?"
"Drop it I'm not going through with"
"DON'T TELL ME TO DROP IT I WANT TO KNOW WHO HIRED YOU RADES"
"YOUR MOTHER DID DAMN IT"
Your heart dropped. You weren't one to cry but the news that came out hit like a bomb that just went off. Rades seen the tears form in your eyes after he told you. He knew what betrayal felt and looked like and right now it was painted all over your face. He couldn't help it he knew better than anybody how you felt right now. When you went to walk away Rades grabbed your wrist and pulled you to him.
"I'm not going through with it Y/N so don't... Do whatever it is your about to do"
You wanted to push him off, Walk away, Something but you just couldn't, Honestly you really didn't trust him now. He was hired to kill you how could you trust him after having that info thrown in your face like that. Was all of what he said lies? does he actually love you? You couldn't tell anymore, you're heart was in pieces like it got put through a shredder.
"You lied to me, This whole time you lied to me"
"No. Not about everything"
"I can't trust you Rades"
"Listen to me damn it I, I already said I wasn't going to what more do you want to hear?"
He pulled you close without thinking, holding onto you like if he let go he'd lose you for good. Your the only person he can't loose, The only person who made him like this, the only person he actually wanted. You felt how hard he was holding you almost like he was afraid. You could feel how hard his heart was pounding in his chest. When Rades seen your mom walk up he grabbed you and shoved you over the balcony and looked at you with a straight face before walking away.
You muttered as you were falling to your death.
He said irritated it as your mom walked past him and looked over the railing and her smile dropped immediately.
She asked turning around only to be met with a blast of Rades soul corpse magic before falling back and going over the railing and hitting the ground dying on impact and there you were standing under the balcony from above with a zombie Rades had secretly summoned to catch you below after shoving you off the balcony. You couldn't take your eyes off your mother who was splattered on the ground before looking up to see Rades looking down at what he did before leaving.
You don't know why but you ran, ran as fast as you could towards the front door but when you got there you didn't see Rades there. You ran inside looking everywhere for him but he was nowhere to be found. You walked back towards the door only to see him vanish with another man through a spacial portal.
You were to late as the portal closed behind them. He was gone, He just left without a word, and every part of you knew you were never gonna see him again.
