The Occurrences of 1840 // Selected Entries

I had a blast drawing this fanart for @lester-van-fabul0uz 's terrific (and positively terrifying!) fic "Grant Me Sactuary" for @hxhbigbang25 !

I loved the first chapter TO BITS, and if you too are into gothic scenarios, catholic imagery and hisoillu/kurokura tension, please keep your eyes peeled for its release! Happy Big Bang!

Oh fairy, scatter my love beyond

I had the great privilege of illustrating @pikamemfo's fic for the @hxhbigbang25!

It's a beautiful, dreamy, heart-wrenching story about Kurapika's early life, told with the common thread of a specific flower. I loved reading and drawing for it, and I hope you enjoy it as well!

Visual trivia: (because I think this kind of thing is fun!)

The milkweed cluster in the foreground represents the four people Kurapika was mourning most: Pairo, Mother, Father, & Elder.

Kurapika of the past/memory is facing right (looking towards the future) and Kurapika of the present is facing left (looking towards the past)

(That's according to Carl Jung's interpretations anyways lol)

But! In the memory, Kurapika is more focused on the woven flowers in front of him (representing strong familial love and respect, if I'm not mistaken).

I've found lots of interpretations for the meaning of milkweed/asclepias in the language of flowers - probably my favourite one was "let me go", so I gave the flower to Pairo to hold up.

I thought about including a butterfly with the milkweed flower (because that's what they're known for!) but decided against it last minute; after all, Pairo never got to grow up.
