I was so happy with the perfect cropping I just had to post it like this HAHAH. Happy late birthday to this guy ever, and happy new year!! May this year be kinder to all of us <3
also yes theyre on a snowy date together. this is a modern au they went to a nearby cafe with matching clothes and scarf hehe
Magical, beautiful, incredible
Subaru and Reinhard Re Zero Arc 9
more reinhard doodles i genuinely cant stop drawing him aherbggjshhsh
his birthday is coming up though as cheesy and chronically online as it sounds im gonna buy him a little cake lmao
consider: Reinhard wants to preserve the flowers. Maybe Subaru could help him make a herbarium (as he canonically has a plethora of miscellaneous useless but neat skills) out of them (once he gets over how morbid it is)
DEFINITELY… when he gets over everything he will help Reinhard but also reassure him things that yes you are capable of feeling such things, yes what you feel is undeniably real, yes your love is true and same as his, but Reinhard would still be insistent of keeping the petals and Subaru’s always been weak to his loved ones sooooo teehee
This is so so cuteeeeeeeeeeeee
i think what I love the most is that whenever I start to render it feels like im giving subaru make up like yeah that eyeshadow and stuff so CUTE AJHAAJ
Fuckkkkk - middle anniversary characters from blue archives are not who I was coping we would get (we are never getting the seven prisoners) Akira please come home Akiraaaaaaa. My pulls for Swimsuit Seia and Hasumi have gone well so I am not as sad though.
Kai would also be great - god I want someone to break them all out of npc jail….
I have already accepted we are getting Suo on the highlander re-run or never
Reinsuba Hanahaki AU
(my english isn’t good so apologies in advance AHHH)
Reinhard wakes up one day with an itchy throat and small ache in his chest, which was weird considering he has a divine protection that prevents him from common colds (is what he assumed it was)
He ends up paying it no mind and goes about his normal duties such as being a sword saint and tending to any of Lady Felt’s needs
The itchiness was still there and the aching was starting to bother him.
On to the Royal Capital he happens to run to Subaru again
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay but you asked for it
Subaru is normally flat and distant, only performative smiles, but when Reinhard is at his lowest, Subaru becomes incredibly gentle.
The rare warmth becomes a drug for Reinhard; he’ll do anything to get it again. He's trained like a Pavlov dog.
Subaru frames everything as rational. Objectively, Reinhard does fall apart without him. Objectively, the camp does need Reinhard. So of course he's stringing him along a bit, but it's for the greater good, and not because of his own emotions.
Any vulnerable emotion gets disguised as a practical observation or a strategy. Love is never called love. It's a means to an end, like everything in the Greed route.
Reinhard was once the reliable one, and the protector instinct is still there. He’s fiercely protective of Subaru, especially if anyone criticizes him.
If Subaru is away, Reinhard lives in a weird time blur until Subaru returns.
Reinhard genuinely feels like his mind switches on only when Subaru is present or talking to him.
Reinhard doesn’t even eat properly until Subaru reminds him.
Reinhard keeps small tokens from Subaru (a pen, a mug, his old tracksuit jacket) and clings to them when Subaru is gone.
When asked what he likes, Reinhard answers are just Subaru's habits, Subaru's favorite tea, Subaru's favorite stories, Subaru.
Subaru has little phrases or petnames meant just for Reinhard, to make him feel special. One petname or inside phrase and Reinhard just… melts.
Subaru is more distant, but occasionally lets a hint of his dependence show, like a flash of panic if Reinhard isn't around, because something could go very wrong, he says.
Reinhard panics because Subaru didn’t say goodnight one time. He replays the days events, trying to find what he did wrong. If he tells Subaru about this, Subaru would reset just to say "goodnight" properly.
Reinhard says, "I don’t know who I am without you." Subaru is quiet for a moment, then says, comforting, "You don’t have to know."
Nights are a completely different story.
On bad nights, Subaru wakes up from a nightmare frozen, too tense to reach out, but he’ll whisper for Reinhard. It doesn't matter how quiet, Reinhard will appear. (Similar to how he needs Beatrice to help with his nightmares in the main timeline)
Reinhard pulls Subaru against his chest and grounds him: "You’re here. You’re safe. I’ve got you. I'll protect you."
They never talk about it in the morning.
When they’re out in public and something triggers Subaru (a sound, a smell), his reaction is subtle- jaw clenched, eyes distant. Reinhard just quietly moves closer, hand on Subaru's waist, and places himself between the "danger."
Reinhard scans rooms for Subaru's potential triggers, not his own needs. He positions himself between Subaru and crowds, very casually, with a big smile.
On most nights, Subaru insists he doesn’t need Reinhard to stay, and sends him back to his own room.
Reinhard sometimes listens, but he’ll leave the door open, lie awake, waiting for any hint of Subaru needing him.
Reinhard loves being the protector. It’s how he remembers himself before he lost everything. He likes feeling useful again.
Whenever Subaru has a bad episode and Reinhard helps, he feels relieved, almost guilty for how good it feels to be necessary. He feels like he's not the pathetic one right now.
It's awful. He knows it's awful. But he almost hopes for it. When he sees Subaru is doing horribly, there's a sense of relief alongside the concern. Thank Od, he's needed now.
If Subaru tries to deny help, Reinhard doubles down. Not so much "Don't act like you don't need help" but more "Don't act like you don't need me."
But Subaru doesn’t want to be the only one who feels small, helpless, and broken. So he gently pushes Reinhard down into that same softness. He uses a gentle, quieter voice, almost cooing.
"You look tired. I’ll handle everything today. Just do what I tell you." He'll say to a man who he knows is far stronger than him, but who will also rely on him.
Subaru would know far more about Reinhard's upbringing from other loops, that Reinhard wouldn't even be aware of. He praises Reinhard in that almost-parental way that makes Reinhard's chest burn and his defenses melt. The kind of thing he knows Reinhard would ache for.
After a horrible nightmare where Reinhard holds Subaru until he stops shaking, the next morning Subaru acts oddly gentle.
He makes breakfast, brushes Reinhard's hair out of his face, touches his forehead like checking for a fever even though Reinhard probably can't even get sick.
It’s a silent, way of reclaiming control. He felt small last night so he'll make Reinhard feel small today.
They never say, "Now it's your turn to be the broken one" but that’s how it feels.
Reinhard once tried to journal his own feelings. Subaru found the notebook in one loop. After resetting, he doesn't mention it. Instead he subtly tries to reframe everything… in ways that downplay Reinhard's independence and emphasize how safe he is with Subaru and the Emilia camp. By the end, Reinhard feels better, but also more tangled.
After all, Subaru the camp can't afford to lose Reinhard.
Hi I hope I'm not hijacking your post too much but since you and others liked these, I thought of some more with a bigger focus on the timeloop element (since that's the biggest theme in Greed:IF) so :) here you go :) :) :)
Reinhard is literally the strongest man in the world, practically unkillable, so he doesn’t measure his strength against enemies, only against Subaru's safety.
He knows exactly where to stand so that if something explodes, Subaru will be in his shadow. He knows how to angle his arm so Subaru's head slots under his chin in a crowd, how hard he can grip Subaru's wrist without leaving a mark.
He treats Subaru's voice like a command line. Subaru says, "Stay." Reinhard can bench-press a building, outrun a dragon, but does none of that. He stays. Subaru says, "Come here," and Reinhard will cross any distance, no matter what’s between them.
If anyone asks Reinhard what he is, not just who, his answer is basically: "I’m… Subaru's. I protect him."
Reinhard listens for Subaru constantly. He's always aware of where Subaru is, what he's doing, who he's talking to. It's not stalking, of course, he's just looking out for him. It's definitely not stalking... right?
He keeps this tracksuit jacket for completely non weird reasons, okay!
Reinhard doesn’t remember loops, but think about the amount of miasma coming from Subaru's body how. Sometimes when he first sees Subaru after a reset, his chest tightens like grief. He doesn’t know why. He just knows: I have to keep him safe. This would get progressively worse.
Subaru treats Reinhard’s obsession as a resource. He's less concerned with if it's healthy than if it's useful. He gathers information through loops, and uses it to fake intuition in their connection.
If Reinhard tells Subaru a personal story in one loop, Subaru will remember. Next loop, Subaru drops a line that Theresia once said to him, exactly, in the same cadence. Reinhard feels like Subaru is "the only one who really gets him." Subaru never admits he mined it from another life.
Subaru tests obedience in "expendable" loops.
In some runs, Subaru will give Reinhard an unreasonable order, like "Stand down," when Reinhard could save someone, just to see if Reinhard obeys.
If Reinhard disobeys, Subaru notes that this configuration of praise/neglect isn’t enough. Next loop, he adjusts.
When a loop goes off-plan, Subaru's priority is not survival, of course. He knows Reinhard will watch him die. He knows it will hurt him. He rationalizes: "This Reinhard will disappear. The next one benefits."
He can’t see the aftermath, can’t watch Reinhard fall apart over his body. He only has the split-second before he dies. The look on Reinhard’s face as he reaches for him. Subaru uses that last image as proof: Good. The attachment is strong enough
Subaru has tried dozens of petnames across loops. Some bounce off. Some annoy Reinhard.
But one makes Reinhard’s shoulders drop, his eyes shine, his whole posture go loose with relief. Subaru locks that one in. Uses it only when Reinhard is at breaking point, or Subaru needs absolutely unquestioning obedience.
Reinhard can fight the sun, but one quiet "Good boy" (or whatever fits) in the right tone, and he’d lie down in the dirt if Subaru asked.
All that said, some specific loop concepts:
Confession loop:
It’s a bad night. Subaru's scraped up, exhausted, almost died. Reinhard is shaking from how close he came to losing him.
Reinhard breaks down. "I can’t- I can’t breathe when you’re not here. I'm in love with you."
Subaru could shut it down. Instead, he thinks, "fine. Let’s see."
He lets Reinhard kiss him. Maybe more, though it wouldn't exactly be sexy. More like a half-frantic moment where Reinhard is almost sobbing into his shoulder. Subaru participates just enough.
After that, Reinhard is different. He stands too close. He touches Subaru more easily: hand at his back, fingers brushing his waist. He becomes less focused on anything else, including fighting or battle.
Subaru notices a pattern over the following days, and decides that this will result in Reinhard being too sloppy. The emotions are too messy. The camp’s survival odds are at risk.
Subaru resets
Next loop, Reinhard looks at him with that same naked devotion, but this Reinhard hasn’t said anything yet, hasn’t touched him like that. He’s still "pure" in a way.
Subaru feels a flicker of guilt when Reinhard smiles at him, unaware of the history only Subaru remembers.
The memory of Reinhard’s confession. The sound of his voice. The way his hands shook. The feel of his mouth. The words "I’m in love with you" ringing in his ears. The knowledge of exactly how Reinhard kisses, how he reacts when touched.
Remembering when Reinhard doesn't somehow feels like a violation. How can you look into someone's eyes and know you've seen them at their most bare, and yet know they never agreed to that in this life?
Subaru burries the guilt, as always.
Sometimes their relationship gets pushed further. Subaru tries to reject Reinhard: "Don’t complicate things. You’re more useful like this."
But sometimes, in moments of high stress, Subaru slips.
And then he has to reset again.
Assisted suicide loop:
The timeline is a disaster. People are dead, the situation is hopeless.
Subaru calls Reinhard, very calm: "Do you trust me?" "Of course." "Then listen. I need you to kill me."
Reinhard short-circuits. He’s physically capable of anything, and yet his hands just… won’t move.
He tries. He gets as far as touching Subaru's throat or shoulder, and then jerks back, horrified. "I can’t. Don’t ask me to. Please don’t ask me to."
Subaru watches all this with a cold, evaluative stillness. Almost disappointment. "Then you’re useless to me."
It's cruel, but he won't remember anyway. This Reinhard truly has no use anymore.
But the uglier truth is he also wants to see what that word does to Reinhard’s face. How deep it cuts. He wants to know how much power the phrase has as a lever.
Subaru walks away, leaving him stunned. Later, alone, Subaru ends his own life. Reset.
He never sees Reinhard find the body. Never hears him scream. Never sees the days afterward. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. That reality is no longer real.
Self-Harm Loop
Subaru breaks down Alone in his room. He turns on himself with the pen, hurting his own body to feel something he can control. It's not an unfamiliar scene.
Reinhard, can sense something off. He rushes over. He sees the red, and it's as if time stops. Reinhard never looked so helpless. He crosses the room in a blink, grabbing Subaru's wrist, horrified: "Su, stop. Please stop.”
For a few horrible minutes, Subaru's mask shatters. He’s shaking, crying, fingers fisting in Reinhard’s clothes. He leans into Reinhard like a drowning man, clutching at him, whispering fragmented, ugly truths: that he’s tired, that he’s scared, that he wanted out. It almost mirrors the lap pillow scene. It's almost sweet.
Once he’s pulled himself back together, the humiliation hits.
He resets.
A pathetic moment like that shouldn't be allowed to exist in the perfect future, after all.
Obsession loop (Which I'm also calling the Yanderein loop)
In this loop, Subaru leans harder than ever into the conditioning. It's the same basic idea as before, but he's focusing way more on it.
Reinhard, already dependent, tips into full obsession. He starts memorizing Subaru's schedule down to the minute, watches him sleep under the excuse of "night watch," pockets his discarded mug or used bandages, and hardly ever leaves his side even if all he does is stand there.
Subaru notices how off it is. The long stares, the way Reinhard appears instantly whenever someone else gets too close. He gets unnerved and pulls back. Clearly he's overdoing it, so he gives Reinhard space.
To Reinhard, that feels like abandonment. He convinces himself someone must be turning Subaru against him, that Subaru is overworked, confused, being dragged away by people who don’t really understand him.
The jealousy hardens into a quiet, frightening resolve. If the world or even the camp keep hurting Subaru, then Reinhard will just... remove the problem.
Unfortunately, Subaru has lost control of his human nuke.
Instead of leaving when Subaru says tells him, Reinhard knocks him out (Using the same trick he used on Felt in arc 1) and takes him to a hidden safe room, far away. (We know Reinhard already isn't that opposed to kidnapping if he sees a good enough reason)
The route ends with Subaru waking up in a locked, carefully prepared space: his favorite tea, his things neatly arranged, Reinhard sitting beside the bed, exhausted and radiant with devotion.
"You don’t have to decide anything anymore," Reinhard murmurs. “You don’t have to know who you are. You’re mine, and I’ll protect you from everything." (Ironically echoing Subaru's words back)
"What about the rest of the camp?" Subaru asks. No answer. “They'll come for me.” Still no answer. Fuck.
Reinhard notices Subaru becomes distressed and keeps trying to hurt himself. Subaru is freaking out because this loop may be permanent if Reinhard doesn't let him kill himself. And Reinhard is always watching. "This was a good call" he thinks. "Subaru needs me to protect him. I'm glad I took drastic measures this time."
Eventually he distracts Reinhard just long enough to do something about it. Maybe he kisses him, something he knows this version of Reinhard would melt into and lose his ability to focus. In that moment Subaru quickly stabs himself, or slices his throat or something.
He bleeds out in Reinhard's arms. Reinhard apologizes repeatedly for not protecting him. For failing. For not being able to die with him, because Od won't allow it.
Subaru almost manages to apologize back before dying.
Subaru resets. Reinhard is back to how he was. Still a lost puppy without him, but at least capable of having other thoughts.
For a moment he thinks about what he's doing. But some things can't be reset.
"I'm sorry, Reinhard." He says to himself
Hijack my post as often as possible pretty please, will you do it every day if I beg nicely?
That last loop holy shit, Subaru is so shit at making situations better isn’t he? (He wants affection so desesperatly but he is so bad at it aghhhhhhh) God the terror is delicious, though I am skeptical that Reinhard would leave anything sharp around Subaru after his self harm :)
YIPPEEEE!!!!
You're right though, Reinhard would become a lot more protective. The only solid thing I can come up with is that Subaru does still have Echidna in his back pocket. If she could make it so Subaru could use Petra's handkerchief as a blade when he was being trapped by Envy in arc 4, then I think a similar situation could be set up. Very similar, actually, because Envy also had to watch him bleed out in her arms.
Subaru shows up to the tea party and Echidna is all smiles, as usual. "This is amazing. I would have never known the sword saint could be so thoroughly broken," she'd comment, and it would only cut Subaru further. But the fact of the matter is that she needs to help him get out of this loop, because otherwise she won't be able to see any more possibilities! So really, they're both in trouble here.
Do you think that Subaru would think about what would have happened if Reinhard took the necklace? I mean it wouldn’t even be that weird, it a bit of a pointy rock, and if Reinhard is so scared he’ll hurt himself-. Do you think he is more distant in the next loop, tries to make Reinhard’s fixation shift towards Emilia? Or maybe he fantasizes about how things might have gone - could he have lived a full life and come back? He probably still feeds the obsession but I imagine he is very careful to never pull back, if he ever figures out that it was the trigger. I love the vives you give them aghhhhhhh
God I don't even know what could happen if Reinhard took the necklace. Though I still think Subaru would be able to contact Echidna eventually, or she'd choose to intervene because the situation is getting too drastic. But would Reinhard somehow be able to tell something is up with the necklace by touch? With all his powers... Maybe?
I don't actually know what that would do though!
Reinhard is paranoid over Subaru being corrupted to not relay on him right? This is just to say that if he somehow got the impression that it allows Subaru to connect with a witch. I don’t really think that he would take that very well. I tend towards yes, cause if his perspective is apparently so full of spoilers I can only asume he is working with some sort of way to detect things like this in his back pocket. Oh you are absolutely right -Subaru would probably find a way to weasel around it, or Echidna would be forced to do something, but I think it’s fun :). I want to make him suffer, little guy.
I know, I just also think that Subaru might want to separate himself from Reinhard - specifically because Reinhard is like this because originally Subaru was so reluctant to fight him, he convinced Felt to drop out. So I can imagine that Subaru figuring out that being close to Reinhard also puts him in that line of fire might make him irrational.
Ah yes, the I am obsessed with Subaru couple, that unironically sounds like a premise for a crack fic - what if the only bonding between you and your boyfriend was how badly you want to fuck the guy that is trying to make you get new attachments for some od awful reason.
Ah yes the diagnosis, of brain static, it’s a miracle Reinhard has not told this to Emilia and made Subaru’s life a nightmare of trying to not think of RBD when Reinhard is in the are. Honestly that is such a fun concept, Reinhard trying to soothe Subaru after he thinks about RBD too much and Reinhard knows he is havin a bad episode. Subaru is treating him like a child tomorrow.
Reinsuba in the greed if has the flavor of toxic codependency that I delight in. Delicious, tasty, different. Feed me your headcanons about them, please? Or your thoughts? Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Reinsuba in the greed if has the flavor of toxic codependency that I delight in. Delicious, tasty, different. Feed me your headcanons about them, please? Or your thoughts? Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
