          Soft caresses nor words of care were far and few. Rosy cheeks rested against his palm, yearning for more comfort from him. She hardly understood why she felt so strongly- why something deep in her stomach warned her Ciel’s time was short and he’d be taken from her firm grasp once again. Hiccups soon came, she needed to pull herself back together. This was a face unsuited for a lady.

The second salty droplets trickled down her cheeks, he became.. lost.

Thoughts would jumble within his mind.

The intensity of her emotions stunned him. What could’ve possible upset her so?

"Lizzy..”

Small arms would encircle her, pulling her into an uncertain embrace. Shoulders stiff, lips would press against her forehead tenderly. A familiar gesture that felt so foreign.

"Nobody would want to be your friend with an attitude like that." She glared and withdrew her palette knife. "And if I were you, I’d watch what I say. After all, it would be such a shame if something happened. I’d hate for you to get hurt."

♔ "Watch what I say?" Incredulous laughter erupted from his petite form. "You are bold, that holds true." The subtle hint of a smirk lined the soft arch  of his saturated lips-- only arrogance and amusement offered oh so generously. Lithe fingers wrapped around the cold metal of his gun-- rose, cocked, aimed. Ready to fire. "Nonetheless, a true lady is to act decently, and properly. If you were to attack me in such a manner, I shan't hesitate to blow a bullet through your head."

Scolding, however serious one may be about the subject, was not nearly as effective when the scolder was simultaneously hugging the scoldee. It was not a failure Lizzie would care much about, but a failure nonetheless.

How tightly she had embraced the little Earl, he was almost fearful of the strength she possessed. Almost.

A light cough concealed by a pale hand. Beads of sweat trickled down his temples, he offered an awkward smile.

Lithe fingers rose to rest upon cheek of ivory almost affectionately. Golden locks that curled, emerald orbs once sparkled with unrepressed enthusiasm. She was missing her sunny smile. It was unlike the quivering lip with tears trailing down her features due to his mistakes. No. Emotions depicted so strongly, he could only identify as grief, sadness.

That expression didn’t fit her.

He only hoped that he was misreading it.

Cheek resting in the palm of his hand, a light scoff escaped pale lips. How boredly he picked up a black pawn and fiddled with it. The boy felt his displeasure rising further and further— he exhaled.

"Have you learned your lesson yet? The m o n s t r o s i t y that lies in this world of ours? Unforgiving, unfair.. No one to possibly trust. I’m sure your late butler opened your eyes a touch.”

He set his piercing glare onto the other, chess piece dropping onto his desk with a resounding clack

"You made a mistake to trust a f i e n d whom never contradicted you, whom you clung onto because the loneliness you felt was unbearable. You wanted love but you desired it from the wrong person.”
