Kinda sad ppl dont talk abt the Watcher DLC more bc genuinely I think it is the best addition to the game. Completely and honestly I think the Watcher has the most interesting and compelling story + the region/level design is utterly fantastic. I dont think anything in this game has made me more in awe and shock except maybe seeing the void worms for the first time in survivor

Its horrifyingly fantastic, you can follow a god into the past where people were Alive, seeing what life was like before the apocalypse came and we had to live in its ashes. It is such a unique feeling no other game has been able to replicate for me

Along with that, furthering the prince ending and seeing the rot worm was so unbelievably terrifying. You could see smth moving and then you see that it is the truly untouchable. Rain World set itself up as a game where you cannot die, that youre stuck in an endless cycle of rebirth with only diving into the depths with the void worm to free you from it. The void worm is what we get for a true god that is entirely untouchable and here is the rot. Completely destroying it

And yes I do know Saint has the ability to 'ascend' the void worm, but saint is meant to be godly. Saint is meant to be the god that finally came back for its creations to gently guide them towards a rest theyve so longed for

The rot is not a god

The rot is a cancer that plagues the very earth. There is only assimilation until you lose yourself. Until you become so entwined with the cycle that there is no other option. The cycle is not meant to be a good thing, it is not a savior, it is the great problem. The great problem that the messengers of the gods have dedicated every fiber of their being to find a solution to

And it is the rots purpose to render that effort entirely useless. The Prince is an iterator who believes the great solution is to forfeit it. To become one with the rot and lose everything you are and everything you will be

It is a solution

It is the only one the Prince has ever cared for. The only one it has believed has worked. And the completion of that still destroys it. Karma consumes the Prince and it is finally gone. It doesnt even get to be apart of the creation its worked for. If everything is apart of the same entity, devoid of any unique qualities, they will all die the same death

Rain world is a game abt a diverse ecosystem and it shows you the consequences of an ecosystem thats collapsed. Nothing can sustain itself if there is nothing left. You sit in a field of karma and are forced to acknowledge the consequences of your own actions

Also calling Spinning Top a god is something that I’ve never really thought about. It makes me sad all over again. Imagine being a child forced in the position of a god and befriending something more akin to what you used to be in life: an innocent creature. Waaaa they mean so much to me :(

When I was questioning my identity, it didn’t matter that I was knee-deep in the LGBTQ+ community for years. I had NEVER heard of being bigender.

When I finally said “fuck it, I know the pronouns I want to use, I’ll figure out the rest later”, you know what everyone asked?

“So are you a trans guy or a cis girl using different pronouns?”

It was like. I’m back at the fucking building!! I have to choose again?!

Common sense kicked in and I just googled bigender to see if it was a thing. I’m really glad I did ❤️🏳️‍⚧️!!

Observations of Filial Cannibalism in Centipedes

Hi hi it’s time for me to infodump about this post because I loveee centipedes (specifically the scolopendra genus)

First of all, I should start by saying centipedes make great parents. They brood by wrapping themselves around their young, cleaning + protecting them from eggs to ~2 weeks post hatch. During this time, their central focus is their young and they do not typically eat. In fact, for some species, they may never eat again. This is because some centipedes perform something called “matriphagy”, a process in which the young will eventually eat their mother.

So if centipedes make for such great parents, what’s all this then?? Well, in rare circumstances, mother centipedes will actually eat their own offspring while brooding. Scientists theorize this behavior in not the norm, but instead results from stress. The idea for this post in particular came about after reading this observational study, which is about a scolopendra cingulata performing filial cannibalism. I chose to depict Ragatha’s mom as scolopendra gigantea instead, mostly because they’re one of the most recognizable species.

All of this to say, I drew Ragatha in this scenario to emphasize the irrational and upsetting behavior of her mother. Her abuse would not only be cruel by human standards, but would be similarly baffling in centipedes as well.

**I feel the need to emphasize that neither matriphagy nor filial cannibalism are malicious behaviors in real life. These are animals, not people, and they are evolved to perform certain behaviors. Matriphagy in particular is a beautiful demonstration of optimization for the survival of new offspring! Centipedes rock!

non-aromantics getting access to the phrase “aros can date too!” is so tragic. because now they just repeat that to every aromantic (regardless of where they fall on the spectrum) to “reassure” us that we’re not “broken”, or to justify making unwanted romantic advances.

non-aros really struggle with the idea that there are some people who just. Don’t Want To Engage With Romance Ever. and that, with enough time and patience, they can somehow make us “return” to being alloromantic (despite, for a lot of us, there is nothing to “return” to; they just assume that romance is an innate part of living), or “correct” us in one way or another.

Once I had a terrible terrible coworker who repeatedly insinuated I had a crush on my friend. Uncomfortable with this, I replied “haha no I’m aroace.” Her response? “That’s okay! Aroace people can fall in love too 😊” BROTHER…

And like. Could I have been more specific? Sure. I could have gone “I’m actually romance/sex repulsed and the thought of you implying I should get with my friend sickens me.” But I should not be obligated to disclose any of that information, especially in a public work setting!

I was implying that I was not comfortable with what she saying. That should be enough to shut it down! And I definitely shouldn’t be getting lectured on MY identity. I know who I am!
