A cold draft blew into a dilapidated room, one that once housed a resident of Oolacile prior to the abyssal corruption that now mired the former kingdom. The door clicked shut behind the tall, well-dressed man - entering with the poise of nobility despite his isolation.
Chester clicked his tongue in frustration.
âI suppose Iâll be wearing my coat tonight.â
He pushed aside a splintered table and set it against the door. A subtle grime trailed after the uneven legs, but Chester was far too exhausted to care about such trivial matters. He thought to himself to be grateful that it wasnât the putrid abyssal sludge he had grown so used to seeing around the area. Despite its current state, Chesterâs building was one of the few remaining structures left untainted by the abyss.
Chester loosened the meticulously arranged buckles around his body, letting them dangle around his now relaxed body. The approaching chill of winter interrupted his typical routine of fully removing the various apparatus attached to his body. He groaned at the prospect of an uncomfortable night. His top hat was tossed aside onto a wobbly chair that now served as his nightstand, quickly followed by his grinning mask made of ivory. The dusty air entered Chesterâs exposed nostrils, which caused him to cough profusely.
He laid down on the stiff mattress, his back complaining as if the bed were made of stone. An odd scent of mildew and ash lingered on the fabric, something Chester had learned to somewhat tolerate during his time in Oolacile.
The belt around his waist dug into his flesh regardless of the side Chester laid on. With an exclamation of frustration, he aggressively slid the leather off of his body and threw it against the cracked wall opposite the bedâs footboard.
âBloody hell⊠How did things turn out like thisâŠâ
Chester buried the memories of his life from his original time despite his frustration in an attempt to fall asleep. The previous nights provided little rest, a trend that would seemingly continue. Amongst the flurry of thoughts that flashed through his mind, the image of a certain snowy-haired companion leaning on his shoulder with bright eyes of curiosity lingeredâŠ
Surrounding Chester was a haze that obscured everything further than a few meters from him. All he could make of his environment was that he was within a room not so dissimilar to his current lodgings, but the atmosphere through the mist implied a more refined and organized aura. Unlike his musty, stiff mattress, Chester felt a plush and silky bed underneath him. In his hands were a book with words that scrambled themselves before his eyes, rendering them nonsensical. The most distinct feeling that Chester felt against him was the warmth of Lynnâs body pressed to his side. Her eyes were cast away from him, her focus trained towards the book Chester held.
Chester saw Lynnâs lips move as if she were inquiring about the book, but he could hear nothing from her. The haze about the two of them suppressed Chesterâs senses and clouded the typical sharpness of his mind. All he could focus on were the sight of Lynnâs soft lips mouthing a silent question and her fluttering eyelashes as she gazed up at him inquisitively. A burning desire to claim Lynnâs lips within his own flickered within his heart, stoking a fluttering blaze that traveled from his chest down to his abdomen, which then traveled further downwardsâŠ
