Eggtastic: Stroboscopic Patterns on Easter Eggs

Jiri Zemanek and his talented team of mathematicians at AA4CC have turned their algorithmic abilities into art this Easter season. Using Bruce Shaprio’s open source Eggbot, they have found a fascinating new way to paint Easter eggs. Using stroboscopic patterns painted onto the eggs, a fun video shows the designs turn into animated zoetropes.

Introducing a creative way to have fun this Easter, in a fun blend of crafts, art and maths, they drew a pattern over an ordinary chicken egg using the Eggbot with a custom design engineered from an algorithm for each egg with the motor rotating at a special speed to cover the egg in the selected pattern. Once animated, the fun designs turn into an animation of stroboscopic art and patterns flowing in synchronization with each other, making the regular eggshells come to life with movement.
