Tales of Luminaria Information/Resource Collection

When people want to know more about a piece of media that’s gone offline, they usually go to a wiki or a TV Tropes page because those places usually have all the information available.

But information on Tales of Luminaria is pretty scattered everywhere on different social media sites. A lot of fans were rushing to take screenshots and record what they could of the game before it shut down, after all. And because the information is scattered, it can be pretty difficult for people who have never played Tales of Luminaria to actually learn more about the game and its finer details.

So I made this post. I wanted to collect all the links to different places that have information on Luminaria in one place. It might end up helpful for Luminaria fans who are searching for really specific, miscellaneous things too!

How do you continue to support a game that’s gone offline? Well, I don’t think you do anything differently from how’d you normally support a work you like.

The option everyone can do is to just talk about the work you like, what you like about it, what you don’t like about it, anything’s fine as long as you’re talking about it. You can’t underestimate how strong word-of-mouth is! That’s how you keep things alive.

Another option is to buy whatever official merch is available! Global fans have two options to buy the official soundtrack. JP fans have this page that shows them where to stream/purchase the OST.

Oh, and if you have a JP friend who likes Tales of Series music, then I’d recommend you show them this page. This one isn’t a store, but your friend will be able to check out different tracks from different Tales games and “like” them. Tales of Luminaria’s tracks are there too. They’ll be in for a treat if they’ve never heard them till now!

You can also buy official merch from this online store whether you’re a global fan or a JP fan! Of course, if you’re a global fan, the shipping will be expensive. I have a post here that displays the kind of stuff you can buy. You can check the captions if you’ve got questions.

Ah, and one last thing! Whenever Bamco has official campaigns, like, when they ask the fans what their favorite Tales game is or who their favorite Tales character is, Luminaria’s fans need to show their support!

It’s not every day you get a chance to really speak up about a work you love in a way the official company can’t ignore it, so you got to take your chances when you can!

Whenever I come across takes that are absolutely rank I come here, search up some key words, and see if I can find some damn good reasonable discussions (which yes, I usually can!) Lots of talk about "bullying wins" and little talk about power and the flow of capital, which is what matters to the corporate bigheads who approve these things. imo a few things were at play here to make them rescind this.

- It was buggy. Tags not showing up for an OP past even an empty reblog did not appear to be intended (or at least, it was not mentioned in the announcement), and is a MAJOR problem. Specifically, it undoes the major update from around 5 years ago which was heavily praised by the userbase (one of few tumblr updates to actually be widely well recieved) which allowed a poster to see tags in their activity feed. If this was the only problem, they could have launched a bug fix. Same goes for not being able to turn off reblogs.

- Userbase unity? Well, maybe. Specifically - the userbase had a swift, harsh, and overbearing response to this update. Most of the complaints were the same: this will exacerbate harassment, this will disrupt the flow of communication, this will make it impossible for someone to maintain their posts. Big names in the tumblr ecosystem came down hard, fast, and with significant concern: if this stays in place, I will have to leave - this place will not do what I need it to do. Much of the userbase said the same, sharing alternate blog hosting sites and doing the thing we always do when this ship looks like sinking. Additionally, their replies and feedback forms were obviously being flooded. This put real pressure on their workers in the office, which puts financial pressure on the company. I think the most disrupting tactic though, was going offsite. I checked out their instagram and twitter comments; they were flooded. This is something we Don't Usually Do when we're just whining about the newest change. Usually we stay here to complain but we make do with the change. This, I think, is the thing that signified people weren't just whining but were actually for real pissed. And then of course...

- Five hours before the roll-back announcement, an article drops. That kind of bad press is the nail in the coffin for a dying company like tumblr. I imagine several concerned meetings somewhere in those five hours.

What do we learn? The answer is not "bullying works" and "swearing at customer service reps is fun". The answer is to remember that online, we are both the product and the thing that creates the value (similar to but obviously distinct from the actual workers of a corporation; if we vanished overnight they'd have nothing). Brush up on your collective bargaining & try to understand why this happened in this way. And don't try to replicate this for every random update that comes next by endlessly harassing them. Take stock of the little power you have and work out where to put it to use. This is still just tumblr.

I don't really like it when people see a sweet character with a gap moe violent side, and then decide to reduce a character to that gap moe for comedy. Like yes, it's funny that the fluffy soft girl has a collection of guns, but that's only a small part of her appeal. Sometimes it really feels like English fandoms have a hard time just letting characters be nice.

I feel 7 again, watching the English dub of Digimon 02 on tv and being extremely confused about why the characters are suddenly so much meaner than I remember from the Chinese version (that's because they rewrote complete scenes to make the characters "funnier" aka mean spirited)

You know what character type I fucking miss? Gender confused.

Mostly an anime thing. Like that one character who was explicitly non-gendered by the narrative, and it really didn't matter. Here's the character Bumblefuck, what's down their pants? What are their genders? What are the pronouns used? Fuck we know, but none of that matters because that's not what this character's arc is about. Bumblfuck's gonna punch you and then breakdance on your grave.

Do we need to know? Nope, all we need to know is that they got style. Bumblefuck dresses femme? Damn, good for Bumblefuck. Bumblefuck dresses masc? Damn, good for Bumblefuck. Bumblefuck dresses in a trashbag and rags? Fuck yeah Bumblefuck, break it down!

Sure in the English translation ppl gave them gendered pronouns, and for some reason people have also decided that They/them means the character is NB. But in reality Bumblefuck can't be contained by paltry things such as "pronouns" and determining gender based on that. Because y'all milk drinkers can't break their style.

Idk, I just miss these characters. It didn't matter if you saw them as male, female, NB, cis, trans or whatever. You could do whatever, because the character didn't care. Now people often demand or start pointless wars about character's gender and AGAB, so character's like Bumblefuck can't exist the same way without people starting shit and claiming that Bumblefuck needs a gender label.

Do you think it's "completely fine" and "not a problem at all" that as of now on Archive of Our Own (or AO3, the most popular fanfiction site), there are about 6,400,000 fics that are M/M (romance between male characters) and ONLY about 1,200,000 fics that are F/F (romance between female characters)?

It's FINE. People can write what they like. If they like M/M they can write M/M

It's a PROBLEM that in fandoms fans often exclude females for the sake of males

For anyone who needs a refresher on why this is an obnoxious question:

This is from a few years ago because FFN and Wattpad stats require you to take a random sample and hand-count. (In these charts, the multi & other category includes everything with multiple ship types listed in addition to things labeled as 'multi' and 'other'. That's because this is basically not a thing outside of AO3.)

The difficulty of grabbing other stats is why wankers always get to pretend AO3 is everything and m/m is the big category that must somehow be responsible for the lack of f/f.

People who ask this question are either too stupid or too malicious to be able to research fandom.

AO3 was founded by m/m shippers. The early adopters were m/m shippers.

It's like asking why the clubhouse has club members in it. I don't know, Susan. Truly, it is a mystery.

As time passes, AO3 gets less m/m-centric, but it's still a rare archive where you can filter out het, so it will always have more m/m (and, indeed, f/f) than many spaces.

FFN was more popular than AO3 for years. Even after its traffic began to decline, it had more works.

Wattpad was definitely just as popular (and big!) if not vastly moreso until recently. Whining that you personally don't like the site won't change that it's wildly, wildly popular.

You want to complain that the world is too straight but the queer cultural spaces tend not to be for f/f? Fair enough.

You want to complain that the BL section at the bookstore has BL in it while standing with your back to the TOWERING WALL that is the het romance section?
