[NEWS] Save the Stage: The New Collaborative Project “Theater Complex” has been Announced
With the measures that Japan has put in place to combat COVID-19, the stage industry in Japan, including 2.5D, has been facing some major challenges, including ticket refunds, cancellations of performances/events and other hurdles.

In light of this, a new project to help the industry survive the crisis has been announced. Spearheaded by Matsuda Makoto, the “Theater Complex” project is a platform specialising in bringing theatre to the fans through other mediums.
Matsuda-san is the current President and CEO of Nelke Planning Co. Ltd., Chairman of Japan 2.5-Dimensional Musical Association and one of the key people involved in creating the genre of 2.5D (although not officially dubbed as such, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call him the Father of 2.5D). He was recently featured on a radio show with 2.5D actor Sato Ryuji discussing 2.5D. That radio show is available: HERE
Some of the things that the project aims to do:
Video distribution of the existing stage performances
Live streaming distribution of the upcoming stage performances
Delivery of original content produced through the project
Especially for the original content, it seeks to utilise funds raised through crowdfunding, incorporate the ideas and suggestions proposed by the cast (actors/actresses) as well as the fans and bring these ideas and suggestions to life.
Crowdfunding for the project will officially launch on May 01, 2020.

How much does a stage actor made per one production? average JP worker annual income is about 17 millions yen and I highly doubt that famous faces like Ryuji or Hiroki would made less than that.

[NEWS UPDATE] Warau Salesman: ‘“Warau Salesman” THE STAGE’ has been Cancelled
Due to the circumstances surrounding COVID-19, all the performances for the ‘“Warau Salesman” THE STAGE’ have been cancelled, and tickets will be refunded.
I apologise for the personal nature of this update, but I would just like to add that Ryuji, himself, has mentioned that he was very much looking forward to the stage as it was a role he never imagined he’d receive, and had even accepted the offer to participate in it even though he initially had no plans to do a stage play during that time.
He has also updated about the cancellation on his own Twitter account (which will be translated after this) and apologised for the cancellation. It is entirely up to everyone, but for anyone who would like to send him some support (even if it isn’t in Japanese), his Tweet about it can be found: HERE
