Gloria Arellanes a female activist during the anti vietnam war demonstrated by many chicanos chicanos. Leaving the brown berets due to sexism by the many men. she went right side with Rosalio Munoz leader of the moratorium to help bring awareness to the unfair reality of the chicanos and the war.

Rosalio Muñoz was the key organizer of the protest and the Chicano anti-war movement. Of course other members led, but Muñoz was the center of the struggle because as soon as he was ending his speech, that's when police officers raided the event and began to attack. Gloria Arellanes was also a special member of the Chicano Moratorium. Arellanes was an ex member of the Brown Berets and the reason why she left the group was because she would face sexism amongst the men.Having to link up with Rosalio Muñoz, she then became leader and they both began to prepare for the big even for August 29. Gloria Arellanos was a great example of women empowerment due to her past experience in other anti-war protests and the group she was able to organize called the Adelitas de Aztlán, which was a group of female Chicana activist who fought for unfair treatment and their rights.

Chicanas during the Vietnam War began to write novels about their experiences within the war. The stories are based on what was going on at the time where the men were being forced to participate in. If the men were not in school then by law they needed to be involved. women would have conversations with the men in the war and later began to write about what they spoke.

To this day, we are still fighting for equal employment opportunities in all levels of government. We still fight to preserve our culture, language and fair representation. So let me ask you this, what does the future hold in store for us? Will we keep the cycle going of dropping out of school and giving them what they want, or are we going to succeed and become those lawyers, doctors, scientist they said we will never be? If us Chicanos aren’t being treated with respect here, what makes you think you will be respected out in the war?

Chicanos were being drafted into the military with many sent to Vietnam and many never returning and if they did return, they would either be physically or mentally wounded, or in some cases, both. The only way you were able to escape the draft was if you stayed in school which meant you were required to graduate high school and immediately attend college. Many Chicanos were discouraged to stay in school do to discrimination and the feeling of being unwanted in an environment that was mainly Anglo dominated, therefore many Chicanos and other minorities dropped out of high schools. To make things worse, these inner-city schools surely did not encourage Chicanos to attend college, therefore they were drafted into the Vietnam War, making them believe that by doing such thing, conditions will get better.
