buck in green at dispatch and now eddie in black at dispatch but i don’t remember what the black means for eddie 👀
Okay, so the current theory with the black is that it is about Eddie hiding so that he can stick to the status quo. Eddie going with the flow so he doesn't disrupt the box he shoved his feelings in. Which is why it's important that he is in lighter colors for this arc he just had. That's a full black outfit, complete with a new black watch and Eddie's hair cemented to his head in a way that has not happened this season.
That is paired with the breakup green for Buck (reminder that the breakup green is about something being wrong and the issue being addressed and Buck's relationships not being strong enough to survive honesty, just think about how the moments we see the color are when issues are coming to head, Ali's fear of Buck's job, Buck cheating on Taylor, and then the way he feels he can't trust her, and Tommy's insecurity around Buck's feelings for Eddie) and dispatch.
Dispatch is a space tied to regression for Eddie, because quitting the 118 was regression, but it is also a place where he freed himself from a specific set of expectations, in a moment of clarity that's heavily tied to his friendship with Linda. But with Buck, it is tied to talking to Maddie and being forced to take action, sometimes in a misguided way, but always in a way that feels true to Buck in that moment. And this specific aspect is being exaggerated by the breakup green, because it means the issues are gonna come to light, whether Buck wants it or not.
So my current guess is something is gonna happen in that desert that's gonna force them to confront the elephant in the room, and the initial reaction will be both of them retreating to safety. And whatever they are filming is gonna force the elephant to be addressed for real.
Am I delusional enough to say they kiss in the desert? I mean, I sure am delusional. But realistically, it could be any type of charged moment, an almost kiss, one slips up and says something while caught up in the moment, and they don't know how address it immediately, too intense touch, waking up in each other's arms, it's dealer's choice at this point.
But yeah, my guess is something is gonna happen in the next 3 episodes that's gonna make them both panic, and this is them about to be forced to put the elephant under a spotlight.
Okay, something else here, I'm so convinced about the breakup green being a good thing here, and meaning the elephant is about to be addressed, is because the breakup green is always about Buck's love life and when the breakup green shows up, the reaction to it is immediate, it's in the same scene, or the next scene he has with the love interest. Besides the examples I put up there, the breakup green is also part of Buck's arc with Red in 316.
And the thing here is that Maddie forces Buck to confront "the one that got away" that exists in the concept of Abby, and then Abby shows up, and they have the closure conversation the next time they are alone. With Taylor, who survives one round with the green, it shows up in 513 when Buck tells her he cheated, and then the next conversation they have is them promising to be honest with each other and fixing the issue. Then it shows up in 518 twice, in Eddie's house when Buck confesses to being scared to face her, and the actual breakup when they are honest about the issues and end up breaking up.
With Tommy it actually shows up twice, in 806, and again, immediate consequences because Tommy being honest means they can't stay together, and at the bar, the shirt Buck is wearing under the jacket is green, which means green during the hookup, so the morning after talk that presents the consequences to Tommy being too honest was also triggered by the green.
And in 707 it shows up when the show frames the situation as if Eddie is cheating on Buck, then the next time they are alone is when Buck confronts Eddie about Kim, so immediate reaction.
And in 817, Buck finds the note, and then the next scene he has with Eddie is Eddie bringing Christopher back, and they clear the air as best as possible.
The breakup green is a color that has immediate consequences. Like, if the scene happens mid episode, things will be resolved in the same episode.
Okay, @dialemformurder mentioned the gym scene from 705
I never fully considered this as breakup green because it always felt a bit too dark, but you know what? Yeah. It also fits the pattern, Buck is being forced to be honest and they deal with it before the episode ends.
