he is not really the best when it comes to MOST PEOPLE, but this student in particular has an OVERWHELMING AURA about him that is, dare he say it, almost SHOCKING. he’s used to people being talkative ---- THREE YEARS AROUND NEJIRE is more than enough to desensitize him a bit to that ---- but this is DIFFERENT.

it CATCHES HIM OFF GUARD, and he’s barely even able to register that kaminari is SPEAKING AT ALL, so there’s absolutely no chance that he’s retained what’s actually been said.

( GREAT. he really hates when he does that. )

he DOESN’T REALLY KNOW when he’d become comfortable around the 1-a students that had ALSO BEEN THERE for the fight against overhaul. kirishima is UNDERSTANDABLE ---- he sees the boy practically every day, after all, but he guesses it’s just the sense of HAVING EXPERIENCED THAT TOGETHER that brings about feelings of CAMARADERIE.

with this in mind, he’s not sure he’s NEARLY COMFORTABLE ENOUGH to ask what he’s about to ---- but who else could he possibly go to for this ?

he manages to look for a moment at the YOUNGER STUDENT who seems to be tearing him apart with just one gaze  ( or is tamaki making it worse in his head ? he’s been told he DOES THAT. )  but the next instant his eyes are TRAINED ON THE FLOOR again.

is it unreasonable to be SO INTIMIDATED by someone younger than he is ? by all means, yes, but that DOESN’T STOP HIM.

tamaki .. really isn’t sure what he should be DOING IN THIS SITUATION ---- he’s never really spoken to eri one-on-one before and it’s giving him an UNREASONABLE AMOUNT OF ANXIETY to do so. how do kids even WORK ?? there’s not really THAT MUCH HE CAN DO. would using his quirk for her be entertaining ?

yeah, okay, THAT COULD WORK. at least he’s not panicking as much outwardly as he is on the inside. besides, if it INVOLVES FOOD he’s bound to be MARGINALLY MORE COMFORTABLE. the only thing that really matters to him is that it won’t TASTE BAD if she says yes.

true to this, tamaki relaxes instantly, arms wrapping around his BEST FRIEND to return the hug. it hadn’t even been a PARTICULARLY BAD DAY ---- though he’s not complaining, because a hug from mirio is one of the best possible things that could happen.

he rests his head on mirio’s shoulder and LETS HIMSELF FORGET that eventually they will have to get out of this position.
