Killer on the Loose: Spray Paint and Lighters Used as Deadly Weapons

Authorities are on high alert as a mysterious killer continues to elude capture across the city. The unknown assailant has been linked to at least five murders, each involving a unique method: spray paint and lighters. Victims have been found in abandoned alleys and quiet parks, their bodies marked with eerie graffiti and signs of fiery assaults.
Investigators believe the killer uses the spray paint to disorient the victims before setting them alight with the aid of a lighter. The gruesome nature of the crimes has sent shockwaves through the community. "The victims appear to be carefully chosen, and the manner of killing is unlike anything we've seen before," said Detective Laura Williams, the lead investigator on the case.
"We have a few leads, but nothing concrete yet. The killer's identity remains a mystery." While details are sparse, police are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The killer’s motive remains unclear, though authorities suspect a personal vendetta or a deeper psychological profile may be involved.
As of now, the city is on edge, with law enforcement working tirelessly to connect the dots and put an end to the reign of terror. Anyone with information is urged to come forward.
THE first ever recruits would have been wild animals if we wanna be technical with it!!
but, the first official proxy was Maskey / Tim, followed by Brian, then alex [whose fate was the same as the one of Marble hornets] and finally Jay being the forth one,
then the proxies became more outlandish with the likes of Jeff and Ben around the same time and so on!
I understand creepy pasta but the lore behind this AU makes me so confused. Sorry about that! Can you explain what COTF is about?

Children of the faceless is an AU that focuses on making the story of the 'pastas' more. . . real?
Instead of just 'serial killer mentally ill child gets adopted by faceless man' it gives them all some sort of job or purpose for WHY they were taken in.
I talk a bit about it in this post: FEEDING HABITS but! as a TLDR;
- The operator needs food. A lot of it. Its goal is to spread across the world and reclaim it for nature. ( this comes from my old 11 year old self being scared to litter because i thought slenderman would get me if i did it)
- He uses proxies to GET said food, having them go out, slaughter and bring corpses back!
- He uses the food as fertilizer, as thats how he eats! the food allows his fungus to spread farther and farther..

Welcome to Gothalites big Operator Rant!
I too love mushrooms! Which is how the idea for this operator came to be! i cant say im the most knowledgeable in shrooms, I know more about the ocean than mushrooms but I am fascinated by them!
If i had to think for a real life example that is the closest to the mushroom in my AU it would simply be like an airborne/lichen/mushroom mix of Cordyceps.
Yes, yes i know all three of those can be fungi! But the reason I specify ALL three is because the OperatorFungus is ALL three of them.
Originally the Operator was JUST a mushroom and NOT sentient in any way. It sprouted out of the ground with some of the first mushrooms ever recorded, 715 - 810 million years ago.
And it existed along them, the same as all. When the Operator Fungus first formed it had the cap shape of a Calocybe fallax with a sunken cap! Pictured below! [ image 1]
While also containing the properties of a puffball mushroom! [ image 2], its ability being to 'blow out smoke'.
These two traits carried over the most with the operators change as an entity. His head shape mimics the Calocybe fallax sunken cap with the different parts of the fungus growing up around his head! [ Pictured below, image 1 ]
The Puffballs ability to create smoke carried over as well, in the form of spores and the 'fog' that follows the operator. Unlike the Puffball the operator doesnt have to be inflicted with a strong force to create the fog, the flakes from the lichen as well as the spores are a constant natural byproduct!
In the second image blow you can see the operators back! Around his tentacles are very small [ drawn larger for easier viewing, image 2 ] openings, trough which the constant smoke / spores are dispersed in extremely small amounts!
The only reason the fog is so visible around it at a lot of times is simply for visual representation in art! However the fog may become thick in areas where the operator dwells for longer times [ Example, its office]
NOW FOR THE LICHEN!!!
The lichen present on the operator wasnt always there and wasnt always needed. At first, as explained earlier it started out as any regular fungus in its size, just like any other mushroom it could fend for itself.
However after changing in size and appearance the OperatorFungus needed more help to sustain itself. Usually Lichen appears on thing such as rocks or trees, [depicted above] not other mushrooms.
Lichen is important for nutrient cycling and many animals feed on it! Animals such as reindeer!! Now, raindeer arent the only animals to feed on lichen, however they are crucial to the reason why there is lichen around OperatorFugi!
The specific type of fungus which the Operator is thrives in DEAD MATTER. Meaning it best operates when surrounded by rotting things, atleast in its case. With the change in size the requirement for upkeep grew, and the lichen served as the perfect way to attract animals such as Raindeer.
While for a long time the Operator depended on this lichen, thanks to proxies, it no longer does. However the lichen is there to stay,
so keep an eye out when you see a lone mushroom surrounded by lichen and fog.

you can definitely forage the mushrooms, since some of them aren't in dangerous areas, but they might cause hallucinations, the same ones that the usual infections cause, but temporary,,
you'd experience some form of poisoning! but,,, prepared right, it might be delicious with minimal bad effects on your health!
yummy with a side of hallucinations and illness!!!

[ ORIGINS ]
Origins of my slenderman have been answered already! But in his lore the reason why he exists, functions and why he collects proxies is a bit different then the one i grew up with!
Ive been in the fandom for 14 years!! When i joined it was just a 'tall man adopts mentally ill serial killer child' kind of thing that i still hold dear, but here is my take!

1. The slenderfungus origins as a mushroom that feeds on dead matter
2. The slenderfungus spreading as it grows, developing mycelium to consume bigger pray [deer ect.]
3. The bigger scale spread compared to original start area
4. The bigger need for food with growth
The reason Slenderman, or the operator, has / 'collects' proxies is for the simple use of gathering carcasses.
Originally he only needed one or two proxies for this, filling in gaps with animals he would catch. But as his territory and spread grew he needed more. And more. And more. People.
So here we are, gathering dead things and using young adults as morbid food delivery guys.
