It’s been a year since SALES gave us their stellar self titled album, and we could really use some of their quirky left field pop right now. We’re so stoked to be releasing the new album from Orchid Mantis. “Flashbulb Memory” is a collection of songs written, recorded, and mastered by Orchid Mantis a.k.a. Atlanta-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Thomas Howard, beginning in the summer of 2014 and ending in 2016. MY OLD KENTUCKY BLOG: Orchid Mantis Shares Video for Meditative New Song “Somewhere You’ve Been Before”

On December 30th, he will be releasing his latest album named after [Flashbulb Memory] through Track and Field Records (pre-order the cassette here and digital via Bandcamp). He recently unveiled a visual for sleepy new track from it “Somewhere You’ve Been Before.” The video, shot & directed by Joseph Skillas, pieces imagery, both natural and urban, together to match the song’s hazy feel which comes off like Washed Out, but slowed down creating a relaxing sedative in musical form. We have been playing it in the background as we watch snow fall down outside our window and it is magical.

absolutely couldn’t wait to share this lyrical college i created for Flashbulb Memory. it contains tiny souvenirs from various aspects of my life throughout 2014-2016, such as: 

old film photographs found in an abandoned house immediately across the street from the hospital where i was born. a Buddhist prayer/chant box re-purposed into a drone synth. a hummingbird pin found in the cabin where I recorded several songs for Flashbulb Memory. a fuse found in the basement of an abandoned tennis stadium. tea-bags from an abandoned Korean church. miscellaneous potentiometers & switches from disassembled synthesizers.
