And if Pope did genuinely have ocd and/or was some form of neurodivergent then religion probably did ease a lot of anxiety for him. The religious beliefs represented a sense of order where there’s clear set rules and expectations. There’s acceptance and forgiveness for horrible acts as long as forgiveness is requested. There’s a sense of community and belonging if you share the same values and ideologies. A religion like catholicism has set rituals and rules and someone who feels a need to control their life might find a sense of comfort and stability in performing rituals like going to mass or confession or praying to a rosary.

So yeah Andrew Pope Cody finding stability in catholic faith makes sense if he’s constantly feeling overwhelmed, misunderstood, and just uneasy.

His own mother told him he was deeply flawed and unfixable so he would find a sense of reassurance in a faith that tells him there’s redemption and a place where he will belong.
