It is! This mechanic is also in TOTK too!!!

I haven't found all the diaries/journals in TOTK but in BOTW there's a journal entry that explains about it - it's in Ashai's classroom:

BTW this mechanic doesn't work on campfires or lavas - I've tried it both in BOTW and TOTK and no boost effects on my food 😅
