Relationships are not Staircases, They are Oceans
You enter, cautious and slow, feeling the newness of the environment, realising the sands under your feet doesnât feel like the grass youâve always known.Â
The water refreshes you, itâs always cool on first touch.Â
A sting, then a tingle through your body. And you want to dive in, because you imagine what It would feel like if your whole body tingled the way your toe did.
So you run-in,
or dive in
or sit on the bay never learning what resides beyond the shoreline.Â
For those who are brave, those of us who hold hands with fear and make friends. We dive and swim and swim and swim, finding the nearest shore, grateful for rest. Rejuvenated, ready, to explore more shores and seas.
Many swim too far, finding ourselves lost and drowning, gasping for air, searching around for the hand you held in the jumping in, praying for a driftwood, fighting with every stroke til shore is found again.Â
Weary, we rest.
Some scream for help.
Some sit and ponder their ordeal either grateful for land or angry they even tried.
Some miss the heavy waves beating them about. At least it was something. Now it is just the phantom feeling that follows your breath.Â
In, sway, out, sway.Â
We think, why are we doing this?Â
I say, it is because the ocean is beautiful, it is vast. The lands beyond are new and speak of opportunity. Because the twinkle of the stars in its reflection tell us that this is all indeed magic. For anything that can reflect what is natural and make it more beautiful is indeed a miracle.Â
The memories gives us strength, make us believe that with the right hand holding ours, with the right one by our side. We can make it. We can finally reach the place we will call home. With the one who can, together, build a new world.
