Oh my, I haven't posted anything in ages, it seems. Busy times! But I quite like how this year's Easter motive turned out, so I thought I'd share :). Hope you are all enjoying a splendid spring season!

Seeing as one of my posts from two years ago has been getting some attention last week, I thought I would do a mixed post with watercolours from the Kungsleden I already shared, as well as the meagre results of this year’s trail: the southern half of the Kungsleden. Suffice to say: I had been looking forward to painting, and I had enough watercolour postcards to provide for one per day. But it was simply too cold and windy most of the time, so that by the end of the trail, painting as a possible activity had actually left my mind…

Very quickly: 1) 2023. The valley Láddjuvággi between Singi and Kebnekaise. This is one of my most favorite watercolours from recent years! It’s so easy to get lost in detail, but here I’m really happy with the composition, the strong contrast in value and the overall placement of colours.

2) 2025. This year’s only watercolour from the trail, with Björkfjället at the back looking towards Tjamuok (I’m reading from the map here).

3) 2025. After finishing the trail and failing spectacularly at hitchhiking from Kvikkjokk to Jokkmokk, we enjoyed an icecream at Årrenjarka, 15 km further down the road from where we started. Coz that’s how far we got — in 6 hours’ time.

4) 2023. Pretty stones from the mountains northwest of Abisko.

5) 2023. Evening at Sälkastugorna (22:30 / 23:00?), painted from inside our tent :D.

Two birthday presents, one of which I couldn't part ways with and had to paint a new picture instead (below). Lesson learned: Don't paint anything too dear to your heart, I guess? I really haven't been in a similar pickle in a long time :'D. All very small format (about DIN A5) Medium: Landscapes in acrylics, Pattern motif done in watercolours

Long time no nothing from me D: I had work stacked up and didn't have the energy to post. Hopefully I'll get back to posting more regularly. I have some things lying around that might be worth showing. Anyway here's a little winter study that I just finished and am very fond of. Hope you're all well despite the world being what it is at the moment.

Guys, I just noticed I never posted the last set of watercolours from the Kungsleden! Which is lucky since this year in the Pyrenees I didn’t get to paint a stroke — there was simply too few hours in the day to combine hiking and painting.

Singi, situated in the neighbouring valley to famous Kebnakaise. Haven‘t looked at it in a while and I must say that now, with a little distance, I quite like the clouds in this one.

Coming down from the hills and getting closer to the end of the trail, you suddenly get to see trees again. Granted they wouldn‘t win a medal in a weigth lifting competition, looking as scrawny as they do. But i really liked the vertical rhythm they created in front of those horizontal layers of colour that was the rest of the landscape.

View down Kårsavagge towards Kårsavaggestugan. Boy, that picture‘s so messy. I remember reworking bits in the tent later, based on a reference photo i‘d taken. In situ the light situation was changing constantly and I made the mistake of following along and thus ended up with a picture that was all over the place. And my poor hiking friend was absolutely freezing her ass off in the meantime, waiting for me.

Water rapids near Abisko Fjällstation. I still think the picture doesn‘t capture the water‘s colour well enough, it was a bit lighter overall. But it‘s a nice souvenir of finishing the trail anyway :D.

Plants I encountered on the Kungsleden, part 2. I was getting in more difficult terrain identifying the different species with these pages, though still managable. There are some formidable tools for that online! Mainly https://identify.plantnet.org/, but I also stumbled across this really lovely blog: https://www.wunderbares-lappland.de/pflanzendesnordens/ Done based on reference photos from the hike and other references found online. Ordered roughly by when we encountered the plants and the terrain they grow in.

ai generated images make me increasingly sad and tired the more i see them in more and more casual contexts. i dont know how to explain, but it just fills the world with a bunch of nothing. no matter how visually stunning the pictures might be, there's nothing behind it for me. no dedication, no emotions, no feelings, no hard work or creativity, nothing i can truly think about, admire or enjoy. i dont think thats how art is supposed to be

I would like to extend that to design as well. I feel the same. Deleted all my art from Deviantart today, no need to contribute to that particular ai swamp any longer.

Just so you know, tumblr is currently using art for AI training and the only way to stop them is to go into your settings and turn it off 'third party sharing' manually (on each of your blogs)

Hey thank you for messaging me. I noticed this yesterday and opted out. I am very skeptical it will have much practical effect, but it is better to opt out in any case and spread the word. I had a few thoughts, this button thing has been a move by some other sites as well. Deviantart did it but from the look of it definitely just seemed like PR move to protect the company (DA is now pretty much haven of gAI spam and they have their own model as well). The button option conveniently washes their hands from any data misuse, as in 'hey if your data was used in training we don't know how that happened, because you opted out so not our fault'. But it's what we have so definitely opt out.
