ADDING THE ZINGER!
Presentin' to y'all, the "Zinger" in Chinzinger-- STEPH IS FINALLY BLOGGING. What does that mean?
We about to shake it up a bit, nawm'sayin'?
So, in addition to the stuff Laura and Steph will be bloggling/rebargling, we gonna be starting a round robin writing exercise that's gonna be tagged "world building" so if you want out, there's ya censor.
World Building Word Vomit
I'm here! Now what?
When men feel inconsequential, it’s easier to blame women than it is to confront patriarchy-the true source of the diminishment and lack of meaning in so many men’s lives. When men feel unloved and disconnected, it’s easier to accuse women of not loving them well enough than it is to consider men’s own alienation from life. It’s easier to think of women as keeping men from the essence of their own lives than it is to see how men’s participation in patriarchy can suffocate and kill the life within themselves. It’s easier to theorize about powerful, devouring mothers than to confront the reality of patriarchy. Beneath the massive denial of men’s power and responsibility and its projection onto women is an enormous pool of rage, resentment, and fear. Rather than look at patriarchy and their place within it, many men will beat, rape, torture, murder, and oppress women, children, and one another. They will wage mindless war and offer themselves up for the slaughter, chain themselves to jobs and work themselves to numbed exhaustion as if their lives had no value or meaning beyond controlling or being controlled or defending against control, and content themselves with half-lives of confused, lost deprivation. What men lack, women didn’t take from them, and it isn’t up to women to give it back.

What does English sound like to foreign ears?
We’ve all heard examples of fake Chinese or German from speakers who lack familiarity with either language. While typically cringe-worthy, these examples do raise interesting questions regarding our own language. What does English sound like to non-English speakers? After more than 40 years, Adriano Celentano’s “Prisencolinensinainciusol” remains one of the most illuminating examples.
The entire song is nonsense verse, neither English nor Italian, but the sounds are meant to resemble English. Linguist Mark Liberman wrote an interesting post about this sort of thing over at Language Log discussing yaourter, the French word for an attempt to speak or sing in a foreign language that one doesn’t know all that well. This often involves trying to sing a foreign song with nonsense or random words filling in the blanks. Liberman shares this wonderful quote from a random Internet user:
Just for the story, in France, when we don’t speak English and we want to imitate the sound, we call it “yaourter”(to yoghourt), the imitation sounds like a very nasal language, kind of like a baby crying. It mostly imitates the “cowboy” accent.
jesus christ this is actually reALLY FRUSTRATING IT SOUNDS LIKE ENGLISH BUT IT DOESNT MAKE WORDS
Mila keepin it real. & i mean REAL.

Before women were granted the right to vote in 1918 and 1920 in the UK and US, respectively, there was a very, very long discussion about whether giving women the vote was a good idea in the first place. In fact, people were so adamantly against giving women the vote that the more artistically inclined of the anti-suffragette set were fond of creating tacky anti-ladyvoting postcards, that presumably they could swap with other anti-suffragettes and then laugh and laugh. Here’s Collectors’ Weekly’s Lisa Hix explaining the history of the postcards as an old timey meme.
Think of them like the turn of the 20th century equivalent of the poorly photoshopped Obama with a bone through his nose email forward.
Anyway, enjoy this rundown on how suffragettes are ugly, loveless hags who want only to steal pants (and dicks, probably!) from the men and forcing the dudes to do dehumanizing lady things like hold children and get bossed around. Giving women rights is just like taking rights away from men!
With a little updating, these could easily be retooled into Romney/Ryan ads.
oh my god these are basically just shit that they say about lesbians now.
GIVE. ME. fhfhgdf.
My dentist once told me that letting go is like pulling a tooth. When it was pulled out, you’re relieved, but how many times does your tongue run itself over the spot where the tooth once was? Probably a hundred times a day. Just because it wasn't hurting you doesn’t mean you didn't notice it. It leaves a gap and sometimes you see yourself missing it terribly. It’s going to take a while, but it takes time. Should you have kept the tooth? No, because it was causing you so much pain. Therefore, move on and let go.
#that’s a fucking deep dentist visit
Disney Buys Lucasfilm for 4 Billion Dollars
This is crazy. Disney just purchased Lucasfilm and now owns Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Disney isn’t wasting any time. Announcing a new Star Wars movie Episode 7, coming in 2015. That’s kind of insane to me.
George Lucas said in the press release:
“It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers.
Be as snarky as you want. Say, “he should have passed it on before he made the prequels” but deep down inside you know that you (and I) will have a really hard time trusting anyone, anyone else with Star Wars.
