Yeah, so anyway, House of Cards
* We just watched episode 21, and Rachel's apartment is not in fact in Joppa; the exteriors were shot 1 1/2 blocks from where I'm sitting in HdG.
*Winter's Run Fellowship is actually Winter's Run Tavern, and it's a dive bar in Joppa.
*I'm sure you're not interested in a tour of Harford County, MD Parks & Rec Department properties, but if you're watching House of Cards, you're getting one. My boyfriend works for P&R, he yells and points during every episode.
*Last season Havre de Grace played a trailer park in Springfield, MA and a small South Carolina town. So far this season it's played Joppa, MD--which, lol. Expect at least one more crowd scene taking place here, and ( if the location scout's multiple visits mean anything) another stately historic mansion scene. That's on Parks & Rec property, too--they hold weddings there.
I know that for New Yorkers or Londoners it's an every day thing, but to us out here in the sticks? This is all very exciting.
What the fuck is wrong with people? *Taken today in HaVRe de Grace, MD
Thanks to Pete Seeger for reminding us what it means to be a good person—and a good American. We’ll miss you, Pete.
My son is my entire world. And with loving your child, comes this extreme desire to give them everything they want so they could be happy.
Some things are within my control. Others require a little bit more effort than even someone with the best of intentions is capable of.
Which is why I am...
[TW: rape culture] And when we frame all women as being someone’s wife, mother or daughter, what are we teaching young girls? We are teaching them that in order to have the law on their side, they need to be loved by men. That they need to make themselves attractive and appealing to men in order to be worthy of protection. That their lives and their bodily integrity are valueless except for how they relate to the men they know. The truth is that I am someone’s wife. I am also someone’s mother. I am someone’s daughter, and someone’s sister. But those are not the things that define me, or make me valuable in this world. Those are not the reasons that I should be able to live a life free from rape, sexual assault or any kind of violent crime. I have value because I am a person. Full stop. End of argument. This isn’t even a discussion that we should be having. So please, let’s start teaching that fact to the young women in our lives. Teach them that you love, honour and value them because of who they are. Teach them that they should expect to be treated with integrity because it’s a basic human right. Teach them that they do not deserve to be raped because no one ever, ever, ever deserves to be raped. Above all, teach them that they are people, too.
I Am Not Your Wife, Sister, or Daughter. I Am a Person
This post is soooo good at articulating why it’s so harmful to have to relate women to men through their relationships with men

Women are people, and that should be all it takes to gather support for female rape victims/survivors.

Christmas day sky over the Upper West Side
What I did on my Christmas vacation:
Nothing!
I managed to have 5 and half days off from Christmas Eve until now. 4 were scheduled and then the company graciously decided to shut the building down on Saturday.
I did some cleaning & laundry, we took a long walk one day, and today I had lunch with some friends.
Other than that, it was Netflix, book 2 of ASOIAF and naps. No regrets. I SO needed that. Back to regular 40-hour work weeks tomorrow.
2013 was pretty good. Uneventful in a good way. That's fine--I never was fond of roller coasters anyway.
Great 2013 Red Sox moments and games: October 19th
Shane Victorino hits a Grand Slam in the 8th inning to help help send the Red Sox to the World Series in game 6 of the ALCS
I know, I know. But I HAVE to reblog my second-best baseball boyfriend's playoff grand slam. Every time.
(Jason Varitek is my first-best baseball boyfriend, fyi. He's retired now. Adam Jones is third.)
(Also, VIctorino was my favorite Phillie before he went to the Sox. So. You know. Before it was cool, etc.)
Yep, this just about sums up the end of the work day for me!
Then there was the time I wrapped a shirt in a grocery bag.
