this is actually the primary reason me and my ex broke up. as an only child I’m very used to being alone and he didn’t grow up that way so it reqlly bothered him. whenever I wanted alone time he worried that that really meant I wanted time with other people and I’m just like what????? people need space. period. a relationship is not a contract for ownership. your partner is a whole person with their own shit before, after, and during your relationship.

Like, I do understand trying to be involved in your SO’s interest, but moderation is everything, and sometimes you just wanna play your new video game that your SO has zero interest in, and there’s no need to drag them along through it.

They’ll still be there when your done, probably doing their own thing you have no interest in–then you both can go out and get dinner together, and talk about your day. Your time away from them will honestly make you appreciate your time with them more.

My ex made me spend every minute of my free time with him. If I asked for time to myself, he would throw a tantrum crying and screaming about how I didn’t love him. It was ridiculous and it made me miserable. Demanding that your s/o spend every second with you is controlling and abusive.
