Part Two of my fav moments of Hayden in her room
櫻井敦司-2012 It’s a delight to see him doing his yoga.
today, a video interview….
今日のビデオインタビューは。。。。。
I genuinely think this interview was the catalyst for Atsushi ultimately choosing to cut all his hair off in drunken frustration a little over a year later. This interviewer is being a grade A creep- Atsushi is trying to focus on the song and the band’s art and Tamori is just fucking babbling about his looks the entire time and saying he’s in love with him because he looks like a girl. Absolutely obnoxious behavior, and it was valid of the audience to shout “Shut up” at Tamori over his behavior.
Imai would tell a story later on about how Atsushi drunk dialed him one night, clearly upset, saying he was going to chop it all off and then that night he did. A moment that would have been fine and probably cathartic for Atsushi, except they had, I think, a tv appearance or photo shoot or something in around 48 hours, so an emergency team had to come in and fix his hair after he went ham on it, which ultimately led to him coming out in this famous look (although if I have my timeline right this is the revised haircut after the first initial patch-up)
….so yeah, I blame Tamori for starting Atsushi’s slow crash-out. Atsushi would later say that he was always surprised at how attached people got to his looks- when he let his hair down in ‘89 people had feelings about it, when he cut it all off in early ‘95 people REALLY had feelings about it. He described himself as an unfashionable guy who just did and wore what was comfortable at the end of the day.
I think, understanding this distraction, is why he would often come out in hats and veils for certain songs- at that point you would be *forced* to be focused on the lyrics and the music, and not on *him*, and ultimately that seems to be what he really wanted.
BUCK-TICK - Detarame Yarou MV 1995
Does anybody know what they’re doing here?
Ok hear me out--
This is a regular Atsushi circa 2013::
This is an Atsushi wearing some sort of heavy-duty back or torso brace spun around backwards so that his diaphram isn't obstructed during singing:
Examples::
We don't know what happened, but I am 99% sure this is what's going on. He's not friggin...deformed....or something. There must've been an accident or an injury or it could be related to his last stomach emergency or something.
Or, maybe it was something he was in for a few months long-term full time but never got to finish full recovery. Here's a couple photos from 2020 and 2022 where I don't think he has it on:
So yeah, it seems extremely likely he was nursing a significant injury or perhaps illness of some sort that he simply didn't get to finish recovery for.

On Shiina Ringo & Sakurai Atsushi’s Kakeochi-mono (Eloper) Interview by: Kanemitsu Hirofumi
I thought I should struggle with all my might rather than sing it well. Because I suppose what she might’ve been looking for was the passion which is derived from that
The formidable presence of these two rose to the top without any crossing each other before finally colliding together at the end. The song Kakeochi-mono, from Shiina Ringo’s album Sandokushi which features Sakurai Atsushi on vocals, has turned out to be an extra-dimensional duet song. And today, we ask Sakurai to share his thoughts about it.
_____________
―― How did you feel when you received the request to take part as a guest vocalist from Shiina Ringo-san?
Sakurai (S): Why me (lol). That’s my very first thought. Like, why? But when I heard that Ringo-san said, “I wrote this song in Sakurai-san’s image,” I felt very honoured, and that really got me motivated.
―― Indeed, Kakeochi-mono’s sound is quite out of Shiina-san’s context with its industrial yet gothic flavour, so it stands out even within the album. What was the first demo like?
S: In the beginning, I was given the demo that Ringo-san produced to listen to, but it contained her temporary lyrics, so I thought that this was a true rarity (lol).
