there is no benefit to something if the only “benefit” is that it creates more job opportunities. if you’re prioritizing something that gives more opportunities for jobs in a world that actually does have job openings but are inherently rigged against the people’s favor and wellbeing INSTEAD OF making the jobs that do need to be filled more accessible & thus actively sustaining the structures that everyone benefits off of, you don’t care about people getting jobs. You care about labor getting done and you getting paid for it. Another example of saying you value freedom but actually just wanting privilege.

If you're writing 18th century dialogue, this website lets you search words and phrases to double-check whether they were in use & meant what you intend. It doesn't include every period-accurate use of a word/phrase, but it certainly helped me separate genuine 18th century grammar from the vague tangle of 💬old-fashioned fancy-speak💬 I've internalized from TV and video games.

This phrase has already entered my vocabulary re: media criticism where like. The viewer has a concrete view of what they expect a story to be based on the tropes and cliches they're used to seeing together, and when that doesn't happen, they judge it as a failed depiction of what they assumed it was going to be instead of judging it as what it actually is.

"This show is problematic because the hero didn't kill the villain at the end": When does he steal the bread?

"These two characters who were close friends throughout the series don't kiss at the end! What the fuck?": When does he steal the bread?

"This feels like it's missing a conclusion! Like, the protagonist does bad stuff and because of a critical decision he makes as a result of his major character flaws, meets tragedy in the end! Where's the part where he learns better and brings is love back from the dead and becomes a good guy and gets a happy ending?": When does he steal the fucking bread??
