I get it now.

I fell for the persona of who I thought I was supposed to be.

But why?

Because little girls are taught that being a “good woman” means being everything for everyone else.

Be soft.

Be calm.

Be pretty.

Be agreeable.

Be selfless.

Keep the house together.

Keep the kids happy.

Keep the relationship alive.

Don’t complain.

Don’t break down.

Don’t be “too much.”

So I performed it.

The apron.

The perfect hair.

The smile.

The picture-perfect motherhood.

And slowly, I disappeared inside of it.

Not all at once.

Just piece by piece.

Until one day I looked around at the life I built and realized I didn’t even recognize myself anymore.

That’s the part no one talks about.

Sometimes depression isn’t loud.

Sometimes it looks like a woman doing everything “right” while silently grieving herself.

I thought femininity meant constantly giving.

Now I know real feminine energy is balance.

It’s softness AND boundaries.

Love AND self respect.

Nurturing others without abandoning yourself.

The ocean is feminine. 🌊

So is lightning. ⚡

So is the lioness protecting her cubs. 🦁

So is the volcano that finally erupts after staying quiet too long. 🌋

Femininity was never meant to make women smaller.

It was meant to make us powerful.

Recently, I’ve been called selfish.

And honestly? To them, I probably am.

I’m moving differently now.

I’m setting boundaries that are black and white.

No room for negotiation.

No overexplaining.

No sacrificing my peace to make everyone else comfortable.

My way or the highway? In this season… yes.

Because one person only has so much capacity.

Every pillar of your life takes bandwidth:

Motherhood.

Marriage.

Business.

Health.

Faith.

Friendships.

Rest.

And when something constantly drains those pillars, leaves you anxious, disrespected, hurt, or feeling like your time and energy were wasted… eventually something has to change.

It’s not personal.

I’m not angry.

But I will no longer tolerate hurt disguised as access.

You can forgive someone and still not hand them the keys to your life again.

You can love people from a distance.

You can outgrow spaces that once felt familiar.

And you can choose peace without feeling guilty for it.

When I took these, i have so many feelings.

I had lost 25lbs before this shoot and was finally beginning to love my body again after hating it for years. Three years later, I’m a whole different version of myself!

I was just SO LOST in taking care others instead of myself. I was dark and scary, and for me, with being a ptsd survivor. That’s not an easy thing. 1 in 4 women in the US have been sexually assaulted. Remember to treat yourself with the kindness you want your kids to teach them self because they are listening.

To all the moms, marriage falling apart, exhausted, lost, alone. Just know you aren’t alone. I believe in you.

So thankful for God, Growth, and Grace
