Underrated form of intimacy: being silly together

Not only is the music African-Indigenous, the food, dances, traditions, etc. It’s evident. But y’all know how whiteness works. White folks have takeover spirits and find some way to include themselves in the things and spaces we create while erasing us completely or calling us “influencers” (if that) like it was a group effort with them. Nah, we made that! You’re invaders.
Let em know!
As a drummer I can validate all of this. The whole foundation of the clave, the drums, 6/8, bell patterns, all of that comes from Africa. Listen to African music (Nigerian), and Afro Cuban beats with the Rhumba clave. That’s more identical than any Wolfgang ass shit.
Too accurate Too important
So why then don’t the older generations not like blacks? I’ve always been perplexed by that. We have so much in common buuuuuuuut………. #DivisionSales
Not liking Black people: It’s called conditioning that goes back centuries. That “hate the slave, love the master” mentality. The treatment of Latinxs with light or paler skin being praised, highly accepted, and pushed to the forefront over the demonized and shunned browner skin Latinxs who were/still are pretty much “being encouraged” to hate themselves so much that they crave to be lighter/whiter and bear children with lighter/whiter partners to “adelantar la raza” (advance the race). Then when you take into consideration features like hair type… This form of conditioning takes a lonnnnng ass time to overcome…if ever…
For those that say Latinxs don’t want to be considered black: That’s not the case. All Latinxs don’t think that way. “Black” in the United States, which refers to one’s race (meaning “of or predominately of African descent regardless of one’s complete racial makeup”), doesn’t mean the same thing as “black” in Latin America, which some consider offensive depending on the tone and refers to someone with dark skin (negro, skin color with no regards to one’s racial makeup). Hence, you might hear a Latinx say something like, “I’m not black. I’m moren@.” Basically meaning brown skin.
“Black” in the United States was viewed in a derogatory way too until the 1960s. Before that time, people whom we call “African American” or “Black American” today despised the label “black” and referred to themselves as Negro people (even though it literally means black) and “colored.” Those labels are what white people called them and they saw themselves as having “brown skin,” not “black skin” (if that makes sense).
Also, in the United States “Black” and “African American” are so often used interchangeably that people assume that Black literally means African American. It doesn’t. Hence, you might hear a Latinx say something like, “I’m not black. I’m Cuban” or “Yeah I have African blood, but I’m not black.”
All of this is slowwwwly changing tho.
i didn’t know “negra” was considered derogatory in Spanish. everyone always calls me negrita or negara or negra and i thoought i didn’t know what to think but someone told me it was just like saying Black in English
Oh don’t worry. There’s nothing wrong with being called those. Plenty of Latinxs (*raises hand*) refer to themselves and others by those terms, and it’s def not in a negative way. That’s why I pointed out that some take it offensively depending on the tone or their reasoning, which links back to the first part about not liking Black people or referring to themselves as moren@.

No such thing as reverse racism, genius.
Lmao @ that read animal farm to see how black people are racist quote
Racism is still racism. Don’t romanticize it by calling it “reverse racism”. Don’t call me names and I won’t call you names. It’s that fucking simple.
Shut ur white ass up
^thats the best you could come back with? Just shows how much they are right. You couldn’t counter it, racism is racism.
I used to think I was the strangest person in the world but then I thought there are so many people in the world, there must be someone just like me who feels bizarre and flawed in the same ways I do.
