It’s a month since I got back to England and I’m yet to get back into the funk of normal life. I’ve slipped back into the rut of working like a dog and haven’t given myself time to transition. I assumed when I came back, life would be exactly as I left it and the change back into the norm would me painless and simple. I was wrong. I neglected that while I was away, everybody else’s lived have carried on progressing; friendship groups have divided, people have branched out, moved on and found their own paths. I’m no longer truly part of any of it and that’s a pretty scary prospect. It’s weird coming back and looking at the same things but now through different eyes: picking holes in things I wouldn’t have before and finding faults where faults are not. As glad as I am to be back, I can’t quite shrug this strange, alienating feeling. I think I just need a good Yorkshire Pudding.

30TH JULY 2015

Today I finally brought myself to unpack and get some photos from Rotterdam developed. It’s only been a couple of weeks but it already feels like the time I spent there was in another life; a really foggy, distant memory. I’ve already forgotten how it feels to be choked out by 10ft high weeds while swimming in the lake or how truly ugly the mural on Markhal’s ceiling really was.
