For each of my final pieces I wanted to revisit Itten’s influences on my work about colour theory and his colour grids. I decided to paint my own based on each of the colours used in my three sculptures. This brings the colours to a different dimension and allows the viewer to see more clearly, the contrasts and complements between the colours.

For my final piece sculptures I decided to use colours picked out from paintings created by Georges-Pierre Seurat, Henri Matisse and Wassily Kandinsky. I also wanted to add a contemporary element to the pieces and because I was influenced by Jennifer Mehigan, I decided to incorporate one fluorescent colour to each sculpture, fluorescent yellow to Seurat’s, fluorescent green to Matisse’s, and fluorescent pink to Kandinsky’s, each one complementing the other colours on the piece.

To choose the colours to use in my final piece sculptures I decided to look at various artists' work I had already researched and picked out certain colours from different paintings. I then painted them in grids to see what they looked liked next to one another in a contrasting way to their original placements in the paintings. 1. Wassily Kandinsky 2. After researching Lynda Benglis and César Baldaccini I decided to make some maquettes influenced by their works. I began by using expanding foam, spray painting them, and then mixed PVA glue and acrylic paints together and poured them over. I also mixed some fluorescent spray paint with epoxy resin, which dried quickly and solid but lost its vibrancy when it dried. These maquettes also took nearly three weeks to dry so I intend to make alterations for my final pieces.
