When everything had started to go wrong with the simulation, Parker hadn't hesitated, immediately connecting to a chamber and entering herself. Maybe if she had given it some thought, she might have considered that her mind wasn't nearly as impervious as her body, but the students were suffering and she couldn't take watching them on the screens when there was something she could do. After all, her whole life had been dedicated to running into danger, why should this be any different?
But it was.
Parker thought that she would have time to help some people before having to worry about herself, but the second she stepped into the simulation, she was right back in the rubble. The body at her feet was charred and damaged beyond all recognition... but she knew who it was. Closing her eyes, she turned around in an attempt to focusโthe students needed herโbut when she opened her eyes again, it was like she hadn't even turned. Andrew's body was still there in front of her, and it felt like the oxygen was being dragged from her lungs. "Fuck."
It was during this fucked up simulation that Zion realized how charmed of a life he had lived. Every moment of every image, every scene that he had fallen into had been both more intimate and emotionally arduous than the next. He tried to keep his wits, breathing in, reminding himself that none of these things were happening to him but it was hard. So so hard.
When his eyes closed, he saw a new scene now -- one of the trainers who he had known as infallible, strong, a hero growing up ( the story of the Parkers were one of the many stories passed around the Reverie household, brushing shoulders occasionally at events ).
"Hey," he takes a few more steps, voice low and calmer than he felt. "I don't think that's real. I'm sorry that you have to see that. But I don't think that's real. I'm real." Be brave, Zion, be useful. Be kind. "I'm sorry for your loss." Though he didn't know if it was her loss, he could guess -- given all the other losses he had seen. "But this isn't real. We have to go help other people."

Being a middle child is no easy feat, especially when adopted into a brood of several sisters & siblings being the only boy of nine. You take to it easier than most, a trifling little brother to some and a wise older sibling to others. Identified early as having abilities, your green thumbs give you away quite literally -- but your parents found it endearing. The Reverie's were known as an iconic duo in the music world, falling in love, living the perfect fairytale with acclaimed fame to their names. You grow up wanting for nothing, every whim embraced as a potential prodigal talent as most of the Reverie children had something exquisite to their repertoire. For Acadia it's hair & weaving, knitting, using her hands in any way possible. For Tatra it's her voice, having made her debut rather early. For you, it's your gift, that is shared amongst your siblings as your mother also shares a lowgrade ability that never made it high in Vanguardia's ranking system.
Yours, however, could be deadly if you wanted it to be. You have never wanted it to. The idea of violence enacted on any being was something that made you queasy, the thought of amassing power or influence was just not something you could want for. The Reverie's had already had fame abound, something you often wanted to shy away from due to your sensitive nature. You shared a love of music with your parents, making mixes of their music, learning instruments to then compose instrumental versions of their songs -- a perfect present for any birthday or anniversary. There is nothing you can do wrong in their eyes, you bestow that same kind nature not just to your siblings but to anyone close to you. What of the world is there not to love within all this hate? You spend hours upon hours in the greenhouse built in honor of your first adoption anniversary, Zion's Jewelbox they called it.
Flourishing is easy -- a plant needs more than just sunlight, water, soil and food to grow. Love. You almost want to ask to be homeschooled, Vanguardia may be an institution that made sense for you to go to but you would be missing so much life here. Who would take care of the Jewelbox? Who would read Etosha bedtime stories in the way she liked? Who would try Kata's herbal concoctions and daring recipes without so much as a face made at it's acrid taste? Your parents push you to go to this school, knowing that you can't hide behind your family any longer, that your growth is as important as theirs or that of the plants you nourish with your touch.
At first, you're homesick more than you care to admit. Multiple phone calls to your family, your sisters are divided on the matter, both missing you but wanting you to carve your own way into their family tree too. Though some will join you and some do pass through the halls of Vanguardia themselves, you miss the hearth of home. Your parents and going on the road with them. But you've never been known to give up or to wallow, so you make the best of your time, finding a home away from home. Within these halls, you grow into the very presence you needed when coming to the institution itself. When holidays come, you open your families' home for anyone who needs a place to stay in. When a volunteer is needed for the littles who need a mentor, for the middle schoolers who need a companion or good influence, for a friend who needs an ear or a meal -- you're there.
While you know that there are whispers of what Vanguardia actually is -- you do not opt in. Some professors push you to push your powers past what you're comfortable with, anything to harm or maim others has never been your want when its come to what you can do. You'll gladly fail any class if it means being uncompromising in this aspect of things even if it's hard for you to keep that same resolve in anything else. There is never any true wonder about who your birth parents are because you have the ones you need. Not that you don't dream, even sometimes dwell or imagine, what things could've been like. What you aspire for is a kinder, gentler, better world -- if you are willing to fight for anything it would be that.
