I know these words are going to come back to bite me, by definition of adulthood, but regardless. We are all desperately trying to become adults, when really we should we stay young, like young children: earnest, carefree, honest, and determined.

Aha! When your dealing with binary representations of numbers, how do you check if a certain bit is set? You don’t actually want to convert it to a string and check the char at that pos now do you. Instead just apply a mask of 1 at the position corresponding to the bit for the power of two that you are checking and check what the result is:

your bit + mask bit

0 & 1 = 0

1 & 1 = 1

God wins. I'm convinced I'm useless and dumb and no matter how hard I try will never be able to achieve anything. I give up. Why should I work on another assignment just to get a failing grade? Because I actually want to learn maybe.

Why are grades a validation of our worth? What about all the effort we put into building our lives, all the dreams we run after? In the end, a 3 second glance at a resume will deem us worthless and the one two years afforded to our youth too will disappear into the rugged meaningless rut of adulthood.

I don't know what I'm doing, but I know I'm doing it all wrong. Clearly.
