BACKGROUND
A New York boy through and through. Choi Min-hyuk, more affectionately known as his Americanized name Nicholas Choi, was born in the heart of Queens, New York to a single mother. He'd known nothing about his father throughout his life, except that he was in prison for a number of crimes. Mina Choi worked as a software engineer for a number of failing start-ups, and had it not been for her involvement with the Caveat behind her only son's back, the family would have likely struggled to survive. Nicholas would only learn of his mother's position as a hacker after her death.
Had his life been a bit more normal, Nicholas would have led a successful, easy life. Academically gifted, quick on his feet, and a charming personality. Up until he was 16, he largely viewed himself as a typical American boy, plans to attend university and get a stable job. But his seemingly 'normal' life came to halt when he lost the only family he had, his mother the victim of a hit and run. The boy too smart for his own good was left an orphan, wondering how his mother became a target of crime. In his younger years, he'd grow obsessive after finding his mother's personal computer and her association with the Caveat as one of their hackers.
There was nothing left for him to lose, hopes and dreams of his future life shattered. The Caveat became the only thing he knew, the only connection he had left to his mother. So as a teenager, innocent yet scarred by loss, he approached the organization and begged for a job. Had it not been for his mothers devotion over the years, he likely wouldn't have been taken in. But with nothing left, he'd started off as a recruit, eventually growing to see the Caveat as a part of himself too. His brain served him well, and given how long he'd been apart of the organization, it made sense for him to rise through the ranks. Someone who was intelligent, ambitious, and charming fit into his role perfectly, plenty of time for him to learn all of the ins and outs of his new world. At some point, he’d done it all, mastered every role of the Caveat had to offer, as if he was checking off bullet points of a to-do list throughout his twenties and early thirties. Clever hacker. Heartless assassin. Devote solider.
In between of it all, from Nicholas becoming an orphaned child to the underboss of the Caveat were filled with their share of memories. A failed marriage, an attitude born of carelessness and instability, the desire for revenge he held inside of him over his mother’s death. People would tell you that Nicholas was always a fun person to be around. It was as if he had a switch in him, the ability to turn on his charm and playfulness when the situation fit, and yet be able to strike an eerie fear in those around him in his line of work. HIs humorous personality didn’t make him unfit for his job. If anything, he’d be seen as a trusting face to unsuspecting, despite how volatile he could be in a moment’s notice.
