This man's name is Baekho (Kang Dongho). He is a 23-year-old South Korean singer and songwriter with an incredible voice, who penned multiple hits for his own group and other artists over the years. He also composes and works as a vocal coach/director for other artists under the company he is signed for. A former athlete and a gym enthusiast who can carry all four of his group members at the same time, he showcases time and time again he never heard of toxic masculinity, speaking to his fans about his childhood desire to be a princess, his other hobbies such as eating and decorating yogurt, and his love for cute things. He is a frequent visitor of dog cafes, and a big animal lover. Both small children and small animals love him.

So what is the reason for me writing all of this? Recently, he has been a victim of bodyshaming on stan Twitter from fans of another group, who irationally hate the group he is a part of. As someone who struggled with body image for years and was forced to go on extremely restrictive diets by his company despite always being of healthy weight, it makes me so sad to see the mocking, insulting comments directed at him. He doesn't deserve that whatsoever. Baekho has only recently become confident enough to show his body, which got him noticed by Men's Health Korea and earned him a magazine cover, but somehow these people say he needs to lose weight. Nothing he does is ever enough to haters.

This man is a nice person. He is a kind soul, beautiful inside and out, and although he doesn't fit the so-called "flower boy" beauty standard of the Korean pop industry, he doesn't deserve hate for being his healthy, handsome self. Different is good too, isn't it?

So what I am trying to say is that the actual ugly people here are all those hiding behind anonymous accounts and egg icons to spew hate towards others just because they don't like them. They're ugly on the inside and pathetic. What sad lives these people are living to make themselves feel good by putting down others. Sad. I truly feel sorry for them.

Don't shame him and definitely don't shame him because he's a member of a group you for whatever reason hate randomly??

jonghyun’s first full length studio album, she is (or: 좋아), was released three years ago today on may 24th, 2016. the album features the title track of the same name which was written by jonghyun and co-composed by jonghyun, crush, wefreaky and philtre. the album itself features nine tracks, all which jonghyun wrote the lyrics to and all that he participated in the composition of with the exception of “white t-shirt”. “she is” earned jonghyun two music show wins, and praise across the board internationally. please take a moment to celebrate the anniversary by listening to the album above!

I am a BigBang fan

Because I’m extremely tired of the non-stop “hater” rhetoric, let’s clear this up.

I did not hate Seungri. I never hated Seungri. I don’t hate him now.

I hate what he’s done. I hate who he chose to associate with. I hate the choices he made. I hate that he hurt people. I hate that he’s damaged BigBang. I hate that he’s lying. I hate that someone I was so proud of last year, that I thought was showing personal growth and bettering himself, had me completely fooled. I hate that I can’t trust him. I hate that things will never be the same.

I have a right to be angry. I have a right to talk about it.

I’m not interested in trying to change anyone else’s opinion. I’m not interested in anyone trying to change mine. It’s easier to label someone a hater because labels make it easier to hate them in turn. Telling people they are not “true” fans is one of the oldest, most manipulative, and most infantile arguments in ANY fandom.

I realize people are doing and saying things on both sides that are mean or cruel. It saddens me that some in the fandom have resorted to tearing each other up. I’ve done my best to be my own keeper, to reign my emotions in and not give knee jerk reactions to every comment I don’t like. I’ve gotten sarcastic, sure, but I’ve tried to stay in my own sandbox. I am a BigBang fan. I may not be your definition of VIP but that’s your opinion, not truth. Loyalty is not defined by mob mentality and denying your own conscience. When someone earns my loyalty they’ll receive it. When they abuse it they’ll lose it.

I really like reading your analysis. From a reasonable point of view, it seems fairly unbiased and you also seem to have done your research as well. 1) Do you have any idea about KVIPs stance on the whole Seungri situation? Are they still supporting him or not? 2) Seungri stans say they'll only believe the statement his lawyer gives. But aren't lawyers paid to defend their clients? Can we take his lawyer's statements as an unbiased source?

Oh, anon… Thank you, but I’ll be honest with you: I’m not an unbiased source. In the beginning I was very much for Seungri and defended him stubbornly. Then, as time went on and more was revealed, I became a little less so, my optimism and confidence in him withering away. It was sometime in April when I finally saw where this was going and switched sides. Now I’m pretty publicly against him. I don’t believe he’s guilty of every terrible thing he’s been accused of by the public, no, and you won’t ever catch me joining in on that awful “electric chair” meme or anything nearly that extreme. But I do believe he’s been involved in some pretty despicable things – that ultimately, he’s the one who got himself into this mess – and I just want to see him take responsibility for what he’s done, be disciplined accordingly, and show some measure of resolve to better himself as a person.

But I’d also appreciate it if he does it far away from us and the rest of Big Bang.

As for KVIPs, I’m not sure. I can’t read, speak, or understand Korean. All I know is I have heard that it’s primarily international fans still defending Seungri, and I’m willing to believe that, because that seems to be the case anytime a member of BB ends up in hot water. Many of us IVIPs have different standards than Koreans, different life experiences, different cultures. As a result of this separation – and a lack of cultural context – we tend to be more lenient toward these idols. What we’re hearing second- and third-hand might seem excusable to us, but just remember that KVIPs are closer to the issue. The effect of this recent controversy is more immediate for them than for those of us residing, say, halfway across the world. It’s personal. Can we really blame them for being angry?

I think it’s also important to remember that we’re relying solely on translations, whereas Koreans are not. They’re getting their news direct from the source and they understand the nuances of everything that’s being reported in a way we don’t.

“Can we take his lawyer’s statements as an unbiased source?”

Absolutely not. Saying you’ll only believe statements from Seungri’s laywer is the same as saying you’ll only believe statements from Seungri himself. Seungri’s lawyer works for Seungri. He is Seungri’s mouthpiece, his representative to the public and the court; Seungri speaks through him. Seungri has had a few foot-in-mouth moments throughout this investigation; his lawyer, however, isn’t likely to make the same mistake. It’s his job to get Seungri out of this, and to use his legal expertise to help him construct defenses that have a chance of holding up in court, no matter how implausible they may sound to us, no matter how implausible they may be.

Case in point: Park Yoochun’s recent drug scandal.

Yoochun was suspected of purchasing and using drugs with his ex-fiancee, Hwang Hana. Hwang Hana had confessed to using meth with a celebrity friend, but the name of said friend wasn’t revealed. Immediately, speculation about Yoochun started up, given their past together. In response, Yoochun held a press conference where he professed his innocence, cried, agreed to a drug test and promised to retire from the entertainment industry if it came back positive. “I have never used drugs,” he said. “I cannot even imagine thinking of using drugs.”

The media reported on video evidence of him wiring funds to a dealer and picking up the package from a secluded location, so Yoochun had his lawyer file a lawsuit against the news station for reporting “false facts”. He requested that the police investigate him (sound familiar?) vowing to “diligently participate in the investigation.” A follicle test was done using hair from his head and legs – because he had removed most of the hair from the rest of his body.

He tested positive for meth (philopon).

This was his lawyer’s statement: “The results of the National Forensic Service cannot be denied. However, Park Yoochun’s stance that he did not do drugs remains unchanged. We are looking into how the Philopon entered his body and was detected by the drug test initiated by the National Forensic Service.”

And everyone tuning in went what???

In desperation, Yoochun even quietly reached out to a lab in the US to ask if it could be possible that the meth had gotten into his system through sexual intercourse with Hwang Hana. The answer: as a woman? Improbable, but not impossible. But as a man? No.

A week later, he caved and admitted to the allegations of purchasing and using drugs – and even revealed more instances that weren’t known. His lawyer promptly stepped down from the case. He has now been indicted (formally charged) and is being detained until his trial – and as promised, has also officially retired from the industry.

In conclusion, anything Seungri’s lawyer says – in other words, anything Seungri says through his lawyer – should be taken with a grain of salt.
