You introduce yourself to Ellie and invite her in, and she smiles and floats into your window with a shout down below “George, I’ll lead them down to the kitchen, meet me there.” As she lands her staff shrinks down until she’s holding a wand, and with a wave her pink dress gives way to a plain t-shirt and jeans.
“That’s better,” she sighs, stretching a bit. “So how long have you been up-“ she stops, looking at the satchel. With a snort she ignores you and strides over to it. “Norm, I know you weren’t gonna try and eat our guest now, right?”
You question both her sanity and your own for inviting her in, but then the satchel lets out a whine and a long tongue whips out, quickly followed by four short, furry legs. You watch in horror as Ellis reaches down and pets the horrifying creature that has revealed itself. “Go back to your master and tell him to be on time for dinner for once.” She opens the door and nudges the creature with her boot
The satchel scurries out the door and she turns back to you. “Sorry about that, mimics, y’know?” She laughs as if that joke made any sense and pulls you through the doorway. “So you’ve met me of course, the most important one, and sorta met George-he’s a shy one, sweet as a button though- and Normaneu. Norm, as I like to call him, belongs to Surtec, big fellow who lives down the hall, I would not cross him if I were you.” She turns back halfway down the hall to make sure you heard her.
You nod, at a loss for anything else to do.
“Good. Nadiya is also on your floor, but she gets so wrapped up in her little world you probably won’t see her for days. Karntin is in that door we just passed, also a sweetheart, if a little odd.” She leads you down a staircase. “Down here is where George and I stay, and if you venture up is Yanti, she’s okay I guess, bit of a recluse.”
She continues to chatter aimlessly as you descend into a main hall. She sits you in a comfy armchair and continues to talk to both you and herself as she goes in and out of what must be a kitchen, bring out iced tea and little finger sandwiches. George, the large man from the garden wanders in, smiles sheepishly at you, and nibbles on a sandwich from a tiny ottoman.
You are thoroughly confused, but don’t feel unsafe. Hopefully you’ll learn more but for the meantime, you’re content.
