As soon Cas saw Dean, he hugged him tightly, burying his head in Dean’s neck with his nose pressed against his pulse. He listened to him breathe, to the heartbeat in his neck, letting it soothe him.
When he finally lifted his head, there were still tears in his eyes, but he was feeling less panicked. “Naomi,” he whispered. “Sh-she made me kill you. I killed you. You were dead. Y-your eyes were….even your soul was dead. I-I had to see you, to make sure you were alright.”
He finally pulled away, biting his lip. “Apologies. I-I shouldn’t have woken you up. I-I was scared but…but it was just a dream. I should be able to get over them, right?” He looked up at Dean, his expression broken. He was a failure. He always messed things up for Dean. He couldn’t even let him sleep.
It was the nightmares about Naomi, as he had suspected. He sighed and watched Cas frantically try and account for what happened. When he apologized for waking him Dean sighed, shaking his head and pulling Cas into a hug, holding him tight so he couldn't get free. He heard Sam mention that sometimes making someone be still was good for them to calm down. He petted the man's hair and shooshed him quietly.
❝ Hey. Cas it's fine. Alright? I'm fine. You're fine. We're safe here. There's nothing to worry about. ❞ Dean paused for a moment, an IDEA setting in. ❝ Why don't you sleep in here with me for tonight. You have another nightmare, and I'll be right there. So you'll know it WASN'T real. ❞
