Android vs iOS 03

After talking with my friend Miko, the guy who encouraged me to get into Apple in the first place, I will summarize what it would take to get me to come back to Apple, or simply put, why I left.

I wasn’t particularly unhappy with Apple. I just wanted to do things it wouldn’t let me do. Things I could do with my OnePlus. I understand that I can’t have everything Android has, but I would migrate back if Apple met the following demands:

Allow me to Emulate old consoles. I want an app that will allow me to Bluetooth a controller and play games from PSX, PSP, SNES, N64, NDS, Sega Saturn, MEGA DRIVE, GBA, GB, and NES.

Allow me to Kill All Apps Running in the Background, except those of my choosing. This was a feature available on Cydia.

Allow me to toggle on the control center Night Shift, Cellular Data, Personal Hotspot, and Battery Saving.

Remove Region Restrictions on the App Store. I want to be able to update my Bank of America App, my ONE NECESSARY USA APP. 

Finally, Dual SIM Capability. I want one phone with my roaming phone and a local foreign SIM. One device when I travel. One.

Honestly, that’s about it. I can live without dash charging, torrenting on my phone, transferring files directly from my phone to a flash drive, the selfie camera smile detector, a headphone jack, the back button, the recents button, my beloved google calendar widget.

I was happy with Apple, I was exclusive since 2008. It was a system I knew and excelled at. But for those 5 things, I uprooted my digital life, and switched over. That is how important those features are to me. the rest is not necessary but useful.

I do believe, I am better off waiting for Google to improve their backup system, and adding a toggle for audio output, than I am waiting for Apple to meet these demands.

Android vs iOS 02

it's the little things. 

i love my oneplus. but the backup system on android is imo inferior to apple. when i had an iphone, if i lost it, i did not worry too much. i just simply had to replace my postpaid sim card and buy a factory unlocked iphone with equivalent iOS version no and at least the same storage capacity. i restore the phone, and i lost at worst, a day’s worth of data. 

you know and choose which data was saved and which was not, like my camera roll, which i regularly uploaded to dropbox to save space on icloud. 

i also miss the bluetooth connectivity and audio toggling on apple iphones. bluetooth has been important to me as my car has bluetooth. 

when i had an iphone, the system was simple and reliable. i paired my iphone’s bluetooth with both my headphones and my car. i connect my headphones and use them until i get to my car. once i turn on my car, my iphone connects with the car without disconnecting my headphones, and the audio output immediately switches to the car automatically. when i turn off my car, the audio switches back. this audio output can be toggled at the user’s pleasure.

i am not about to switch back to iphone just yet. there are things on my oneplus i can’t do on my iphone. equally simple things, such as:

i can’t clear all notifications on my screen with one action.

i can’t turn off all apps with one action. android’s recent apps got it right. you can lock certain apps, exempting them from shutdown.

i can’t upload files from a thumb drive to my phone.

i can’t load apps meant for tablets or set top boxes (e.g. amazon fire tv) . 

i can’t load apps outside of purchased apps on the store.

i can’t customize the toggles on control center include cellular data, personal hotspot, battery saving mode, and night shift.

i can’t toggle which icons appear on my status bar.

i can’t emulate consoles such as the psp and psx

there is no dash charge

the iphone 7 has no headphone jack

i love the google calendar widget, and the 7/11 cliqq widget.

selfie smile detection is also handy and fun

i try to remember all these things, and appreciate them.

back to my point. 

i want android to back up all my app data to google drive, unless i choose not to back up that specific app data or folder.

i want google drive to back up my sms messages and call history.

i want to be able to choose my audio receiver from multiple connected bluetooth devices.

these things should not be apps or mods. these should be built into the operating system. it is these conveniences that give apple an advantage in the one aspect android claims to have dominance, customizability. 

now i have been told that multipoint connectivity (choosing your bluetooth media output, even multiple devices for simultaneous output) is possible on other devices, and i will have to research this further. but for now, these are my rants.

Bidets Can Save 15 Million Trees Annually—So Why Aren't We Using Them?

Europeans use them; 60 percent of Japan uses them; 90 percent of Venezuelans use them. They’re called bidets: basins that jet water straight to the parts that need to be cleaned after you’ve used the bathroom. And according to Scientific American, they could play a major part in living a green, environmentally sustainable life. But for some reason, North Americans are not on board.

Android vs. iOS 01

Here are some of the things about iOS that I miss: 

1. The backup system. With iOS, you can lose your phone, buy another one and provided that it has sufficient storage, you can restore your phone near perfectly. 

The same cannot be said for Android. One would need to root, get titanium backup, etc. 

2. Parts availability. Say what you want, Apple made decent tech then. Easy to repair. And with iPhones, spare parts are available everywhere, even cellphone markets.

Never Fully Subscribe

If you are running a corporation, especially a start-up, never fully subscribe. keep plenty of shares available in case you need to replace board members. Because all it takes is one share to be elected.
