Why I Love Croissants
The very first croissant I was 20 years ago in Northern France. I had just turned 23, was on a backpack trip to Europe and had reached the city of Lille. It was never my plan to go there but I had missed a train to Paris and was forced to stay a night in Lille waiting for the morning train. The hotel was fine, the bedroom was quiet and I slept good till the next morning. What happened when I went down for breakfast in the morning was a true miracle. On my table in the restaurant area was fruit, toasted bread, a café au lait and a golden brown croissant.
I immediately took a bite of the croissant and felt a moment of joy. The nice soft bread tasted sweet and the crust had an ever so slightly salty taste. The wonderful taste got accompanied with a perfect sent of bakery i my nose. After that moment I knew I had found something new (for me at least) and something that couldn't be compared with the "croissants" I had tasted in USA. Since I returned to USA I have spent tones of energy to get my fellow US citizens to eat proper croissants. I have gotten really far bot there are still millions out there who haven't yet felt the sensation of a proper French made croissant.
