#Repost @constantdistress • • • • • • Charlottenburg CONSTANT DISTRESS #12 : SPANISH NEW WAVE 📻 incites the listener to delve into the underground sounds of Spain during the decade in between 1980 and 1990. Find link in bio 🔳 A heavily fruitful era born after years of dictatorship, influenced by a large variety of genres pouring into the country at the same time, it was supported by underground labels such as Dro, Grabaciones Accidentales or 3 Cipreses. Bands that fall under the endearing term Spanish New Wave were musical pioneers producing sounds and riffs that had never before been heard, much less sung in the Spanish language. They were trailblazers, combining for the first time politics and sarcasm, and bringing a refreshing and less objectified vision of women in music. They also spoke fearlessly on taboo subjects like drugs, sex and gender politics. Under the New Wave umbrella, Cristian S. @criskrosti delivers an hour of the most essential bands in the realms of punk and post-punk ( Parálisis Permanente, Los Iniciados, Flácidos Lunes ) synth-wave ( Fanzine or Última Emoción ) or even mellow and soft incarnations like Golpes Bajos. Most of these bands actively denied the label of “La Movida” (a term coined to refer to the popular young music of the time, specifically in Madrid) and operated outside of the capital, mainly in the Basque Country, Valencia and Catalunya. From Constant Distress we introduce the mix with an hour of weird punk, obscure shrieking acts (like the less known La Fundación), and even ambient from New Age pioneer Suso Sáiz. Spanish New Wave is dear to the core of Constant Distress and continues to influence countless people of all ages and backgrounds, so many decades after its inception. We hope you have as much fun listening as we did selecting. Cover Image by Montxo Algora.
