Did you know that the late Jean-Michel Basquiat had a Haitian father and a Puerto Rican mother?
As the president spoke, Native American pipeline protesters were ‘caged’ miles away from the event. Native American activists in Oklahoma have expressed outrage at the proposal of the pipeline as it will “desecrate known sacred sites and artifacts” on its path to refineries in Texas, in addition...

Guatemala combats water shortage.
Indigenous Mayan communities in Tojquia use fog-harvesting techniques to wring water out of the air.
Rural communities in Guatemala are using new technologies to wring water out of the air. It is called fog harvesting and it helps to overcome water shortages.
Despite the lush appearances for nearly six months out of the year, Tojquia only gets a tiny amount of rainfall, making it extremely difficult to grow crops and find enough drinking water.
However, that is starting to change for the indigenous Mayan communities in Tojquia who are partnering with a Canadian NGO to try and harvest the fog so that they can have drinking water year round.
This low-tech and affordable technology is now being used in several countries around the world including Chile, Nepal and Yemen. The hope is that it will greatly improve the quality of life for locals and, one day, millions of others.
Innovation. Beautiful.
Marimba : Mayan instrument developed and perfected by Mayans in Guatemala. I’m gonna let this whole playlist on youtube just do it’s thing while I work.
Listen to this and tell me it’s not one of the most beautiful things you’ve heard.

My tits and ass are pretty sore today, but a cute boy bought me a burrito, so life is pretty good.
In which Hari Kondabolu makes this black girl fall deeper in love with him. I didn’t think it was possible, but he proves me wrong pretty much every time he opens his mouth.
Republicans have created this completely fictional President: his name is Barack X, and he’s an Islamo-socialist revolutionary who’s coming for your guns, raising your taxes, slashing the military, apologizing to other countries, and taking his cues from Europe — or worse yet, Saul Alinsky! And this is how politics has changed: you used to have to run against an actual candidate. But now, you just recreate him inside the bubble and run against your new fictional candidate. That’s how Bush won in 2004 — by running against John Kerry, a French war criminal. And speaking of Bush, I know conservatives are saying ‘Oh Bill, come on — Democrats did the same thing to him.’ No. Say what you will about the left’s hating of Bush, (but) at least we were hating on the real guy. We didn’t invent a boogeyman who tanked the economy, took us to war on false pretenses, and tortured prisoners — that was the actual guy. But run down the list of complaints about ‘Fantasy Obama’. He ‘wants to raise your taxes,’ even though he’s lowered them; ‘confiscate your guns,’ even though he’s never mentioned it; and ‘read terrorists their rights’ — yeah, like he did Tuesday in Somalia. …You see, the difference is the Republicans’ hatred of Obama is based on a paranoid feeling on what he might do; what he’s thinking; what he secretly wants to change. Anger with Bush was based on what he actually did. What Bush was thinking didn’t matter — because he wasn’t.

The Susan G. Komen Foundation For Breast Cancer removed over $400,000 worth of funding from Planned Parenthood, which, you know, screens for breast cancer. This is all, of course, due to right-wing pro “life” group pressure.
They Komen Foundation DID - however - think it was totally OK to put their branding all over this Smith & Wesson 9mm! Firearms were the second most common cause of violent death among women, just after car crashes! Take that, Planned Parenthood!
Let’s not forget the pink-chicken-buckets from KFC a couple of years ago, which again were another bizarre PR grab from the Susan G. Komen Foundation, because when you think of “health” you ALWAYS think of KFC, right? You’d think if they wanted to actually stop cancer they’d put more funding towards breast cancer screenings, but there we go. This is where we’re at right now.
Don’t donate to the Komen foundation. It’s emotional blackmail. They just throw the money behind getting more money for the foundation, not towards stopping the disease.
Reblogging for great insight into awfulness of Komen Foundation.
So many facts about the awfulness competing to be the worst! It’s like Highlander, they’re just slaying each other one after the other.
