“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.”
- Psalm 150:6
Praise is not only displayed when we worship God through song and the lifting of our hands. There is so much to it than that. God gave us life and breath so that we can use it to give Him praise.
In Luke 19:37-40, the Pharisees say to Jesus that He must rebuke His disciples when they are shouting and praising God, but Jesus replies “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.” All of creation cries out a praise to God, how much more can we, as the highest living creatures on earth, live each day of our lives praising God through our minds, our hearts, our bodies, and our actions? How much more can we praise God in our lives, our community, and our world?
Let us be like King David, who danced with all of his might, caring less of what people thought of Him. Let us be like Jesus who walked this Earth glorifying God by word and deed. We should not be ashamed to praise His Name and shout “Hallelujah!” for all that He’s done in our lives.

Whatever it may be, the Lord is with me.

I am a terrible Christian. I don’t pray enough, I don’t study the bible enough, I don’t attend church enough, I don’t trust God enough, I don’t forgive enough, I don’t love enough, yet He still loves me and forgives me. It’s incredible. Truly we follow an amazing God who lavishes such grace upon us all.
Not everything that can be counted counts…and not everything that counts can be counted.

Fear is a manipulative emotion that can trick us into living a boring life.

My biggest fear, even now, is that I will hear Jesus’ words and walk away, content to settle for less than radical obedience to Him.

It’s ironic.
When I worked in fast food for minimum wage, they would yell at us and lecture us about “stealing” fries and burgers (while we had to throw out TONS of food every day) as though the giant billion-dollar corporations of McDonald’s and Sonic couldn’t afford to give their employees something to eat (while not even paying us a living wage).
Now I work at an upscale restaurant (it’s fancy, like celebrities eat there fairly often) and not only do I make WAY better money but they give us 2 free meals a day (eaten on the clock) and they’re GOOD. Today I got baked cod, spring rolls, rice pilaf, stir fry, and mashed potatoes and eggplant. Oh, and free espresso and juice. From this restaurant owned by a local man who is in no way a billionaire.
Obviously money is not the issue, valuing your employees as people is.
Finding Jesus in Judges
In the book of Judges, the judges brought freedom when the people were oppressed by their enemies. In the same way, for a fallen world oppressed by sin, Jesus brings freedom to those who repent and turn to him in faith.
The judges themselves were mired by their own sins and foolish choices. By contrast, Jesus was in every respect like us, yet he was without sin. He has made freedom available to the whole world forever, not simply to a small ethnic group for a few years and the judges did.
