Istanbul - Princess´ Island
June 2016. Visiting Istanbul shortly before insanity begins. The most pure days of my year. No words.
Bologna- “The Fat Red”
Bologna is a small town in the north of Italy. It has various nicknames - ”The Academic” because of its university that was the first one in Europe, founded in 1088. “The Red” because of its red houses and the predominant political leanings - and also “The Fat” because it is known for its rich, delicious dishes like Tortellini, Lasagne and the famous “Tagliatelle Bolognese”.
The Old town is beautiful and always full of people. Almost 40 km of archades lead through the Old town. So even if it´s raining you can have a walk and enjoy the lively athmosphere of the town without even getting wet.
Old Town
My first stop was Rio de Janeiro. Rio is quiet ambivalent town with a lot of beauty and a lot of violence. For many people living there might mean a dangerous daily routine. I felt free for the first time in quiet a while. The reception of a place sometime depends so much on who you are. Favourite places of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo music by Jose Battagliero and Afros
Istanbul
This small, small world- Entering a plane alone and leaving as a group of six
This journey actually did not have the best omen- my host had cancelled his invitation and two days before I left I had to face a little surgery.
I could hardly sit and I had no plans for New Year´s Eve- but anyway, no question I was going! So long I had waited to go to Istanbul- I just remember that I have once been there as a kid and I remember it as a giant wonderland. On the bus to the airport I got quite excited, the wanderlust came back! Who needs to sit if he can wander?
I accredited it to my regained euphoria when I thought I´d have seen a friend entering the plain. He has quite a distinctive hat but I must have deceived myself. But while searching for my seat I saw the hat again- and it was really my friends.
“Fernando? What are you doing here?!” “I am going to Istanbul!” “Oh, really?! Me too!” I already knew karma made up something nice for me, but still I was surprised when Fernando´s friend picked him up at the airport. I also knew him! We had made music together in Berlin! Also of one the girls, that stayed at the house where I happily joined thee two guys, I already knew from a music session in the pinche Görli in Berlin
I planned a trip alone which I maybe was not in a physical shape to do. But if you are stubborn enough conincidence might work for you. And so instead of spending New Year´s Eve with how-ever-would-be-there,I almost felt like in Berlin- lost in a Mix of German, English, Spanish and Portuguese but so comfortable! And instead of going to the hostel after a full day of sightseeing I went home. And a warm place to come back -from whereever- is the best medicine. Oh, this small, small world!
(And three months later me and one of the girls move in together. Actually I don´t believe in destiny or karma, but in chaos that sometimes looks like it.A vida e boa!)

Jūrmala (Latvia)
If you want to go to the baltic see, yu have to go to Jūrmala- by bike or by train. By trin is really cheap and relaxead and you will arrive at a beautiful town. Nice wooden houses, but also a lot of souvenirs stands and shops and a disturbing bumm-bumm athmosphere at the beach. But I don´t care, I am at the sea!

I left São Luís in the north of Brazil exactly one year ago. A hommage. (I rarely used my camera during my three months staying there, so it was a little experiment-making a video without footage. Photos arranged on the clip I made of the jam session in front of a club.)
Wow. More or less two months before I got 30 I did it- I gathered nice people around me to make music. We founded a band! I ask myself, why didn´t I do this earlier? It´s so easy! (I learned to play the trumpet 20 years ago and taught myself guitar almost 10 years ago and there is a dark memory of other instruments...) I just had to go half a year to another continent, forget my German culture about being perfect in everything I do, getting back to the instruments, learning portuguese. Learning that learning is good. It has no goal in it´s perfection, only in the process. Learning is amazing. Back in Berlin I just had to go to a park (meet the crazy brazilian with the trombone), make a video for a band (get paid with trumpet lessons), go to Riga (meet the crazy Australian with the Sax) and than get fucking drunk in a Berlin bar (crazy french with trombone), waking up with a phone number on my arm (that´s a lie, it was a piece of paper) and the thought “We should finally form a band on wednesday!” Really strange circumstances that led to this great group of people from all parts of the world making noise together- but actually it started with one mail 4 years ago. A mail that made me leave myself and my country. “Hey Chris! We really like your work! Do you want to work with us in Mexico or from Germany?”
