The Skints - Concorde 2, Brighton
It was my birthday yesterday. I went to see The Skints at Concorde 2 and they fucking killed it. I took a video on my phone but it’s shit quality. New Kingston were supporting and they had the most beautiful harmonies. They’re a band of 3 brothers and their Father from Brooklyn. Absolutely loved it.
There’s something about live Reggae music that’s just the best.
Fantasy Booking - Tye Dillinger
For those who are up to date WWE’s developmental brand, NXT, you will probably agree that Tye Dillinger is one of many exciting Superstars on the NXT Roster. His recent match with the ‘Glorious’ Bobby Roode At NXT Takeover Toronto was not one to be missed and some argue that it stole the show. After taking the pin to Roode it leaves us fans wondering, where does this leave Dillinger now?
Here’s what I would personally like to see the WWE do with the ‘Perfect 10’ Tye Dillinger…
As we all know the annual Royal Rumble is not too far away and where better to debut Dillinger than at number 10? Of course i’m not suggesting that Dillinger should necessarily go on to win the Royal Rumble match but I believe it would be the perfect opportunity to introduce him.
After his match with Bobby Roode at Takeover Toronto I wouldn’t be surprised to see the two feuding through December and then having a rubber match at the next Takeover event which will presumably be on the same weekend as the Royal Rumble. Traditionally, before debuting on the main roster, NXT Superstars have lost their last match so if Dillinger and Roode were to feud up until the Royal Rumble I imagine Roode would ultimately win.
If Dillinger was to debut at the Rumble I think he could go on to have a great feud with someone like The Miz for Intercontinental title as The Miz would do a great job of putting Dillinger over. However, we are yet to see if anything will unfold between The Miz and Daniel Bryan. Nevertheless, if we were to see Dillinger Vs The Miz at Wrestlemania there is no doubt they would have a tremendous match. I can see it now, Dillinger with his hand raised holding the Intercontinental Title on the grandest stage of them all…
I speak for many Wrestling fans when I say Dillinger has incredible talent and deserves to be on either Raw or Smackdown Live. He has proved himself time and time again in NXT and deserves a place on the main roster.
This is definitely the best one i’ve seen...
Pentagon would be the best Lucha Underground Champion by far!
This match will be Epic.
Will Seth Rollins still use the Pedigree when he returns?
Having undergone major knee surgery, should Seth Rollins still use the Pedigree as his finishing move when he returns to the ring? Many people are assuming Rollins will return as a baby face which in itself would suggest that he won’t be using the Pedigree. So what should he use? Should WWE allow the Curb Stomp again? I fucking hope so, it was one of the best finishers on the whole roster. I mean, they can’t exactly have someone who’s recently torn his ACL using a finisher that see’s him landing on his knee every night. As well as that, the Pedigree has always been a power move which is why Trips can pull it off so well. Rollins is far too agile to be using that as his finisher, it never looked great when he did it anyway. I'd love to see him use the Phoenix Splash more often because he only seems to do it in big matches. But yeah, I suppose we can only wait and see, but it's definitely some food for thought.
TNA Lockdown: Wembley Arena
For the first time ever TNA brought their annual Lockdown Pay Per View to the UK. It was bound to be a great event with some great talent on show including Kurt Angle, Matt Hardy, EC3 and many more.
As I stepped into the foyer of the SSE Arena I came across a superstar I thought i’d never seen before. He was dressed in a blue outfit with a lucha mask. As I got a bit closer to try and work out who it was I noticed I had seen this superstar before. It was none other than the one and only, Grado! Now, I know what you’re thinking, Grado has been fired from TNA after drawing the short straw in the Feast or Fired match but although everyone knew it was Grado, he was insisting his name was ‘Odarg’. This was a hilarious start to the show and I was pleased to see one of the superstars greeting the fans.
The opening match was between the recently reunited Tag team of Beer Money and the team led by the King of The Mountain Champion Eric Young and Bram in a cage match. This heated rivalry was always going to make this match exciting to watch. It was no surprise that Beer Money went after Eric Young & Bram outside the ring before they could even get inside the six sides of steel. All four of these competitors had a great match and Beer Money came away with the victory via pinfall.
After this great opening match we moved onto the second match of the evening which was for the X-Division Title between the champion Trevor Lee and the challenger Tigre Uno. Lee was accompanied to the ring by Shane Helms. Although Helms did not get involved in the match he certainly had a huge impact on Lee’s performance against his opponent and former X-Division champion, Tigre Uno. Both men put on an exciting performance. We saw Tigre Uno dive off the top of the cage and perform a cross body on Trevor Lee but it was not enough to pick up the win and Trevor Lee came away still champion.
After this high flying spectacular we were treated to the first ever Knockouts Lethal Lockdown match. This was between The Dollhouse (Jade, Marti Belle and Rebel) and the Team of Gail Kim, Velvet Sky and Maria Kanellis. All six female wrestlers put on a tremendous performance in this match. There was no hesitation whatsoever to use the weapons provided including steel chairs and kendo sticks. After a long fought battle The Dollhouse came away victorious but this match truly could have gone either way.
Once the knockouts had finished we were fortunate enough to see ‘Odarg The Great’ A.K.A Grado compete against Eli Drake. As previously mentioned Odarg The Great had been in the foyer of The SSE Arena greeting fans upon arrival. Although competing under a different name, Odarg’s entrance was to the familiar sound of Madonna’s ‘Like A Prayer’ which we have seen Grado come to the ring to so many times before. It’s arguably how he made his name in professional wrestling. He had a tough battle with Eli Drake but managed to come away with the win which the crowd were very happy about. Odarg The Great/Grado certainly is one of a kind.
The final match for Lockdown taping was between the TNA Heavyweight Champion Matt Hardy and EC3. Both men put on a terrific performance and the match really could have gone either way. Mid way through the match Tyrus got involved to help Matt Hardy but he was taken down by a number chair shots from EC3 and unable to make it back to his feet. Although the match was very evenly contested, Matt Hardy came away victorious with the distraction from Tyrus coming to his aid. The match was very exciting and truly could have gone either way.
Santana Garrett
Santana Garrett has competed for many different promotions with some of her most memorable appearances being in TNA under the name Brittany. She debuted in the Knockouts Division in March of 2014 against Gail Kim and came away victorious. Garrett resides in Ocala, Florida and has been spotted backstage at NXT tapings numerous times. Could this potentially be where we see her in the future? Let’s hope so!
Trained by WWE Hall of Famers Larry Zbysko and Scott Hall there is no doubt that Garrett is a force to be reckoned with. She is hugely familiar with the Wrestling world as her Father, Kenny G, ran a promotion based in Florida when Garrett was young. Because of this many people believe that Professional Wrestling is in Garrett’s blood and that she was born for the industry.
When Garrett first started out on the independent circuit in Florida, she made a name for herself within the Coastal Championship Wrestling promotion where she competed form 2009 to 2014. In her debut match for CCW she competed against Kimberley for the CCW Ladies Championship. Garrett came away with the belt and made a huge impact on her debut with the Florida based organisation. Garrett went on to compete in a Fatal Four Way match for the CCW Ladies Championship and once again, came away victorious after defending the title with terrific style. Following this bout Garrett would defend the title against Jessika Haze on two separate occasions and both times she came away with the title. Garrett has also competed in Tag Team action for CCW with one of her partners being the famous Sean Walkman, otherwise known as X-Pac.
From 2010 Garrett has been competing on the independent circuit. She competed for the IWA under the name Santana G where she defeated Jessika Haze. She also competed for the WLW in Tag Team action and came away victorious after Garrett picked up the pinball on Amy Hennig.
In 2013, Garrett had a tryout with Ohio Valley Wrestling and competed on Episode 735 of OVW where she faced the three time OVW Women’s Champion and the self proclaimed ‘Queen of OVW’ Taeler Hendrix. Unfortunately, Garrett did not win this match but she had a good showing throughout.
In September 2013 Garrett had her WWE tryout in NXT. She was featured on the September 13th tapings and faced Charlotte accompanied by Bayley. There’s no doubt this must of been quite an intimidating match to have for a tryout. Charlotte was victorious in this contest and unfortunately we haven’t seen Garrett in NXT since. However, we may see Garrett competing for NXT in the future.
After the tryout with NXT Garrett returned to TNA as a heel where she competed against Brooke Tessmacher. She lost this bout but went on to sign a new contract with TNA and compete under the name Brittany. She had her first TNA Women’s Knockout Championship match against Angelina Love but could not capture the title. Brittany went on to team with gail Kim against the Beautiful People, Angelina Love and Velvet Sky. Later on Brittany turned heel and vowed to destroy Madison Rayne and claim the Knockouts Championship. The feud between Rayne and Brittany concluded with a No Disqualification match where Rayne came away victorious.
Garrett announced in June 2015 after competing with the Women Of Wrestling promotion that she had signed a contract with Jeff Jarrett’s Global Force Wrestling. She defeated Melanie Cruise in her debut match and looked very impressive.
Whether you’ve seen her competing in TNA, on the indie circuit or even in NXT there is no doubt that Santana Garrett is one of the most exciting up and coming female competitors. With a wealth of experience in the wrestling industry from her Father it is no surprise that Garrett is doing well within the business. There’s no doubt we will see more of her in the future.
This match needs to happen at #Wrestlemania #WWE #Raw #Smackdown #NXT #KevinOwens #SamiZayn #Neville
Anyone who enjoy’s British Wrestling should check out Mark Andrews’ band, Junior.
I think it’s fair to say that JUNIOR have a very unique fan base with bass player Mark Andrews being such a well known British Independent Wrestler, many wrestling fans were in attendance at The Cornerhouse in Cambridge to witness the band blare out tune after tune. The Pop Punk style of JUNIOR is one that is clearly very popular as they received a tremendous turn out for this show. This genre brings back fond memories of my youth as it’s such a similar style to bands like Blink-182, New Found Glory, Sum 41 and many more which you can all hear in the music of JUNIOR.
To start the show we were treated to Swindon based band AS THE SUN SLEEPS. I didn’t know what to expect from this band other than that I assumed they would be of a similar genre to the headline act, which they were with melodic guitar riffs and tuneful vocal lines. I was incredibly impressed with their stage presence. With one guitarist in particular jumping all over the stage and at one point even playing in the middle of the crowd, off the stage. These guys were incredibly entertaining. The songs were melodic and well put together. There is no doubt these guys have a bright future ahead of them.
The second act of the evening was local band, FINDING ANA. These guys didn’t play in the same Pop Punk style of AS THE SUN SLEEPS and JUNIOR but they were talented nevertheless. With a slight tilt towards a more Hard Rock feel FINDING ANA brought a different feel to the evening. The band managed to engage the crowd well and towards the end of their set had the whole audience singing along with one of their songs. There was no doubt that these guys had talent, however, the style of their music was just a bit heavy for the Pop Punk feel of the evening and I think it would of helped the band to be on a gig with some other bands that are as heavy as they are.
After FINDING ANA had finished their set the main act of the night took to the stage and immediately the audience was engaged. Their lively stage presence really stole the show and they encouraged the audience to enjoy the gig as much as they were by flying all over the stage. Throughout their set they played tracks off their recently released EP ‘JUNIORLAND’ such as ‘MARIA’ and ‘A HOUSE THATS NOT QUITE HOME’.
As previously mentioned the bass player for JUNIOR is famous Independent Wrestler, Mark Andrews A.K.A Mandrews. The band weren’t afraid to hide this throughout their set as they asked the crowd ‘Who here is a wrestling fan?’ and the majority of the crowd cheered. However, the band didn’t let this factor take the attention away from how talented they are as a band. They put on a tremendous show and even started a limbo mid set which is something i’ve never seen at any gig but the audience responded greatly and loved it. There is no doubt that JUNIOR are a band to watch out for in the future as they are keeping the flame of Pop Punk alive.
