BIOLOGY-Period 3
Plant Growing Project, Action Project, Test RedemptionÂ
Ok so today went GREAT!
a lot of people showed up and they thought what i said was goodÂ
i gave a lot of information about trees and then we got to cleaning
the best thing was that a company called tropical creations was able to come on friday (20)
and plant 6 trees!! :D from money set aside by the councilÂ
journal
ok so finally i got an update by my neighborhood councilÂ
im gonna be talking to my community about trees and deforestation on sunday, april 22 Earth Day
we will also be cleaning up parts of the community and our park
so that the trees are in a nice clean area with good soilÂ
Deforestation - What is the real impact? (by moviefan277)
i also liked this video it explains how trees can save you from a natural disaster such as a flood because 1 tree has the capability of absorbing gallons of water
[deforestation documentary (by yid1987) ]
this is an interesting video about deforestation and how it not only affects us but other species that use trees as their home.
i also saw other great videos that gave a lot of detail about deforestation in the world but this was easier to understand.
journal
so I’ve been researching more about trees so that i have something to say when my event with my neighborhood council and my community takes place
I’ve read many cool and important things that i didn’t know about trees and how they help us outÂ
for example:
trees produce and clean up the air( i already knew that) but they clean up the air by absorbing carbon dioxide into its roots leafs and trunks then cleaning it! this also helps global warming so its a 2in1
one thing that might be good for my community to know is that by adding trees, shrubs or flowers to their landscape can not only reduce they’re energy bills in the summer/winter but increase they’re property values!
lastly dead trees that get buried make coal and gasoline products after a while
journal
I’ve talked with the chair of the Beautification committee on how to raise money for the tress that i have to plant in my city and to teach the community the importance of trees and why they should help us
this will be happening in april
as for the fundraising we are gonna have some type of “basket donation"
the basket is practically a trash can that they can place anywhere within the neighborhood so that there is less trash on the streets
the money from the basket donations will only go towards my action projects (TREES)
UPDATE:
i will be helping my city council accomplish this proposalÂ
i just received these pics of the plans for Sepulveda Blvd
i will meet with them in about 2 weeks to discuss how i can help moreÂ
Journal
NOO!! so i forgot to put my plants indoor! and they are deadÂ
and the Wind flipped them overÂ
Guess Im Going To PLAN C
Journal
as i read more and more about deforestation i get to learn a lot about many different country, heres something that i read about ChileÂ
the country of Chile has a great demand of wood. Portion of the total area of Chile is covered by forests, but are being removed for commercial buildings. in the article it says that there are currently 11 native trees and plants in danger of being extinct and 26 more are considered vulnerable. The most current law only prohibits the cut of the two most well known native trees the rest are ok. Its also said that if nothing is stopped more than half of Chile’s forests will disappear within 20 years
here is a picture that i forgot to post its the blue plant growing quickly but so far the red is winning
Journal
There hasn't been much sun where my plants are I usually try to move them around to get the best sun exposure But that avocado tree in my back yard is blocking the sun I haven't seen and new growth It looks as if my plants are sad and it's stems are getting thinner :/ Plan B?
Im still waiting on updates about the beautification project in my city that would add many trees to SepulvedaÂ
so far I’ve been reading many articles about deforestation
and ways we can help by doing little thing on our lawn
Journal
Most of my plants are growing at a constant rate I'm seeing that my green plant looks a little sad I might have to change them location
note:
ok so yesterday i went to my city council meeting in regards to make action project
my project is based on trees, and the city is in the stages of adding many trees to the city
I’ve let them know that i am willing to help and that they can count on me
i will also be volunteering in many events in the upcoming weeks and month such as Earth Day(in april)Â
my plans with the city members will benefit my project and my city
theses are Older pictures that i forgot to postÂ
JOURNAL: I’m shock on how fast my plants are growing at first the slowest growing plant was my control plant but now its my Green plant i haven’t seen a difference at all
with my control plant I’ve seen a huge difference in fact its leaves are longer than any other but its stems are not
Orange Pot: Green Plant       Brown Pot: Control Plant
This video is INCREDIBLE!!
its among my favorite songs on iTunes, when i saw this video a few years back it really changed my way of thinking towards natureÂ
Earth Song will be my Inspiration for my Action Project!
