Through the process of knitting I experiment with physical form, either through two dimensional patterns or three dimensional sculptural designs. I am passionate about exploring techniques to see how far I can push the practice and the materials themselves. Currently in my practice I am focused on learning everything I possibly can about the Double Bed Knitting Machine. Within my practise I incorporate embroidery as I feel that it adds a more personal element. Colour is a great interest of mine; through this year I have been analysing how colours affect us psychologically and how we in turn react to this. My research on the science of colour has informed my colour palettes, to evoke a positive reaction.

Assemble bags for Amelia Ellwood. All Amelia’s fabrics are hand printed in her studio in Northamptonshire before being sent up to us a Kalopsia here in Scotland. Just before Christmas we made these bags for Amelia in her cotton print for  “Crafty Fox Market” at the Mercato Metropolitano just of Elephant & Castle in London. Hand in Problems

when bringing my work together i did not aware how much i had. previously in the week i bought a A2 folder to place my work in but it would not fit so today i got another. there no way my work is going to fit neatly in portfoli, it keeps over flowing and will not zip up. there for i was thinking of buying a box for each project. however when i got home i went to put something away in my art draws and i think these would be perfect if i could get some big enough to hold my work. they be light as it plastic  easy to move as it has wheels and easy to separate my projects in draws.

i could create the blocks with my yarn wrappings i did for final design patterns and put hooks under to hang my samples. i could hand my long design and drape it on the floor , using more of my space.

i have researched in to different ways i could display my work for the degree show. some are unrealistic, however they are there to get me thinking out the box. to be more creative. i really like the one with wraped blocks

after consideration and distressing i have released that simplicity is the best way to go, such as in the last one. i feel that i would benefit from researching further in to displaying my work and giving it time to get right. i feel more relaxed about it now than this morning as i have finally released that i am not behind at all, and i do not need to pankic.

after experimenting with different compositions i feel that this is not working and is becoming very stressful as i am forcing it. my plan was to have a rail with design on but now i have taken my designs from the headers and started playing around with then of the headers.

Wallpaper Competition PowerPoint presentation. For the wall paper competition i have used my finial piece which is initially is for fashion and and transformed it to interior for the wallpaper competition

my full length final piece to be displayed for the degree show.   on this piece i used discharge ink to take away the colour from my dyed yarns. using discharge ink was an inspiration from a previous lecture by the company Inside Out. using the foil has a shiny reflective quality such as the sea and the ribbon which weaved and knotted is as the tangled forestry. i am very pleased with how this piece has turned out, on wednesday i felt that it was not going to happen as the knitting machine kept breaking and this was extremely nerve racking and put me in a slum. however on thursday i went back in and thurerly oiled the knitting machine and after this it ran a lot smoother so i took it very steadily to achieve this piece.

Final knit for the degree show on knitting machine.

under the top photo i used a knit attempt which fell of the knitting machine as a way to play around will places to place ladders in my work. my final decision was to place them in the places of the white strips in the bottom image. i dropped the stitches just from the bottom bed not the top . it was needle 60 to the left bottom, needle 3 to the right bottom bed and needle 34 to the right bottom bed.
