Yeah, it worked. -she supposes since they haven’t been elbows deep in the whole thing like the four of them have for the last three months, they probably deserve some kind of explanation- Turns out my eggs are just fine. Not cycling was my body’s way of preventing pregnancy. Guess evolution decided it was too tricky with the shift. And I can’t disagree. But– She and Allison share a look and a soft smile. She’s always liked Allison, always been glad the imprint chose to make her a sister, but now they’re bonded in a way that’s deeper, and defies clear definition–
But Allison offered to do the hard part. And, well, we said yes.
Oh, and two months. We wanted to make sure it took. We were gonna wait until the first trimester was over, but Allison’s starting to get sick, and she wanted to tell you before you just guessed.
So…yeah. Baby!
-Derek smiles up at her, still somewhat in disbelief that this is real. That they’re gonna have a baby together and Allison Argent’s carrying it for them.
Max had been so excited he’d nearly hyperventilated. And then been briefly confused at how Allison was carrying the baby but after that was explained he was back to bouncing around about how excited he was to be a big brother.
However there’s still an unwanted weight on him. Chris appears to be in a stupor ever since the rest of the story has come out.
Derek pokes him. Hard.
This earns him a completely unnecessary glare but does get Chris to move and help him up, still looking completely unrepentant.-
This October there will be a new Hale. -He can’t help glancing at Peter, but quickly diverts to Allison.- Thanks to an Argent crazy enough to help.
-Allison dimples with an answering grin. The moment is broken by one equally as unexpected to people that don’t know them. Peter hugs Leah. But despite Derek’s own feelings, Peter and Leah are pretty close. When Peter turns to him, though, Derek braces himself.
Congratulations, Derek. Peter’s searching his face for something. What, he doesn’t know. Her blood, it could bring the full shift back to our pack.-
I’m not sure that would be a good thing. For all we know, Leah’s genes could completely override mine. Either way I’m, for once, not gonna worry about it right now.
-He finally breaks out of his stupor and glares at Derek and Seth in turn- I’m not sorry about hitting you. -And he’s not. At all. But then he smiles warmly at Leah-
Congratulations. You know how happy we are to get a new grandniece or nephew. And you -he puts his hands on Allison’s shoulders and examines her critically- You just aged me about a decade. Are you feeling okay? Have you seen Marjorie? Or -he looks between she and Leah- are you going with a traditional doctor? Have you thought about it? Made plans? -There are so many more variables with extra people involved. Allison’s body, but Derek and Leah’s baby. Finally he looks at Peter. Takes in the slightly dumbfounded look on his face. Walks over to him and wraps a hand around his neck and presses their foreheads together. He understands instinctively how important this is for Peter, for the Hale line as a whole-
A new Hale, Petie. Our generation didn’t fuck everything up after all, did we?
-Despite all odds, both the Hale and Argent bloodlines will continue, and finally, finally, not be at war. Actually be responsible for each others survival.
He swallows against the sudden lump in his throat-
