the year was Two Thousand and twenty-four. I took a puff of my Electronic-Cigarette, inhaling the vapours. my mobile terminal buzzed in my pocket, a flat slab of microchips and glossy touchscreen. I ignored it....... probably another Electronic-Mail
Usefulcharts was one of my favorite channels. Shame.
He'd converted to Judaism too, which I was surprised to hear! Happy for him of course, but this shit ain't it.
Matt Baker has really disappointed here, and given he has a decently sized audience and I've always seen him as quite authoritative this is quite sad.
In response to a comment about how "from the river to the sea Palestine will be free" in the original Arabic is "from the water to the water Palestinine will be arab":
Honestly at this point I don't even care man. I just want Israel to stop murdering them in the 10s of thousands. The fact you get more annoyed about a turn of phrase, than literal genocide, says a whole lot more about you than it does them.

Tbh the Jerusalem time idea feels more correct than the place of departure one. Basing the start of shabbat on the location of departure seems to cause two issues:
Two Jewish astronauts, one departing from cape Canaveral, and one from Bikonur, would celebrate shabbat 9 hours apart, for potentially months despite being in the same place. This seems weird to me as official policy, even though not necessarily contradictory.
The bigger problem is much farther away from present day, but in an imaginary far future where there may be Jews living permanently in space, what is to be done with someone who has never stepped foot on earth? Do they observe at the time their parents do? What if their parents observe at different times? Departure time only works so long as you yourself actually departed from somewhere.

a lot of denials of antisemitism seem to be grounded in the belief that "nobody would ever hate jews that much," which is a weird thing to think less than a century after people killed 6 million of them, but whatever ig.
Yeah, but then they deny that 6 million of us died, so that they can say "See? Nobody hates Jews that much."
Then they say that since nobody hates Jews that much, the antisemitism must be deserved, so really even if 6 million of us had died it wouldn't have been enough.
Some day, long after this mess is hopefully somewhat done and over with, I would like for psychologists to study the cognitive dissonance that we are witnessing in real time.
Imagine claiming to be the "good guys", the ones on the so called "right side of history" while turning a blind eye to some of the worst acts of terrorism in this age and justifying them? They get to decide who get to be Jews and who get to be 'evil Zionists' as per their convenience to justify their irrational behaviour.
Acting outraged when a Jewish fictional character isn't played by a Jewish actor ( though this is another important matter that deserves attention) all the while not sparing a thought to the disturbing rise of antisemitism, Holocaust denial/mockery and normalization of dehumanization of Jews on public platforms in the wake of the antizionist movement screams performative to me.
YEP it's all a performance and a mob mentality.
I highly doubt people in the future will know very much about how this sort of cognitive dissonance came about. And I mean the majority of people, there will of course be some experts who put a lot of work in, but I imagine most people will know about as much about it as they currently know about what regular Germans in Germany though about the Nazis at the time, that is to say basically nothing.
Welp, you all won’t believe what I stayed up to 2 am working on!
Anyway, have an aroace themed Project Hail Mary cover. I tried to keep a good chunk of the OG cover design (because I actually really like it) and just added in some fun additions to it~
Maybe one day I’ll actually be able to learn some book binding and actually put this on the book 😆. Hopes and dreams.
I’m so happy so many people like this!! If anyone wants to try and actually make this in to a book (like I am hoping to one day) here are transparent layers of the individual colors separated out for the purpose on vinyl transfers and also a transparent of the whole thing if that’s more someone’s style.
Oh, and I also fixed the font! Enjoy!!
Edit: printable book jackets can be found in this post!
Audiobook cover + one with alternate colors
The rainbow flag and the confederate flag have the same kind of vibe but if I explain I will be unfollowed by literally every side imaginable. New political parties will form to disown me.
No but actually very real in a way that is hard to describe, have you seen the Rainbow x Confederate flag mashup? There is something almost natural about the way it looks.
I can't believe home depot literally produced a wildly successful science fiction musical and we all just pretend it didn't happen. on one hand yes it had a boring white guy main character but like.... home depot just... Made it? And it had shit ton of box office sales? and no one even talks about this. this is like avatar (2009) all over again
OK so. After a lot of frantic googling I realized this was all a dream. home depot did not in fact produce a wildly successful science fiction musical. I was on allergy meds and took a nap and my brain simply prophesized this. slightly disappointed because I wanted to watch it.

TIL “Yankee Doodle” was written by the British to mock americans. “Doodle” is thought to come from the German “dödel”, meaning “fool” or “simpleton” and “macaroni,” a flamboyantly stylish type of dress, painting the Yankees as morons who thought placing a feather in one’s cap made them a “dandy.”
via reddit.com
so you’re telling me that “stuck a feather in his hat and called it macaroni” would be like saying “wrote a G on his belt and called it gucci”
that’s…a pretty good analogy actually
US moron came to town
Hunting for some coochie
Wrote a G up on his belt
And this bitch called it Gucci
Seeing my notifications get flooded with this every July 4th is the only thing I respect about America

I'm not sure how to complete this, the window is supposed to be out into space but I'm very worried about just coloring it all in black, it doesn't quite feel like the right move.
