So I finally watched Uprising.
Hmmmmm......
Tweet pictures of dogs to Rob
Go on, do it. Just do it.
@strikersindanger cannot tag, wtf tumbles It most definitely is. This is a clear attempt to discredit her - āYou canāt be mad about Hardwick if youāre with someone like Rob! Look what heās done! Youāre a hypocrite!ā - and to derail the conversation from what happened to Chloe into what Rob did - āYou waited years to speak out but the model your boyfriend sexually harassed spoke up immediately. Youāre a liar!ā
Rob, a decade, and #MeToo
Itās no secret that I love Rob. I mean, have you seen him? Especially with dogs? Come on.
When I first became a fan, circa 2013 when Pacific Rim was released, I did as anyone does and looked him up online for all the ~trufax~ and ~deets~ and shit. I was so disappointed to learn of his behavior in 2007, so so disappointed. But I read that he had apologized, which seemed like the end of things. And so I too forgave him, commended him, and moved on.
With what has recently come to light with Chloe and Hardwick, people have found it fit to drag out Robās past behavior - either they love Hardwick beyond all reason or they want trouble everywhere, who knows. But who can blame them? With all this, particularly with two articles published by ScreenGeek about him, came some information I had not been aware of previously.
One of these things is that Rob never apologized to the model he sexually harassed. As far as Iāve found, he put out an apology via the show, but as the model has pointed out that only covered viewers of EastEnders and the show itself - not her.
This is just... bad. Just bad. And at first I thought I was going to have to just condemn him and move along.
But @gutterballgt reminded me of some things, all of which you can read in her smashing response - check my previous reblog.
Fame can fuck up a person, and that is what happened to Rob. Heās spoken about it and itās completely understandable. Does it excuse his behavior and actions? Does it make any of it okay? Of course not, and he has never claimed that to be the case. Although I am curious why he seemed to deny what happened in 2007 on Twitter - in response to someone stating that Rob had his own #metoo moment years ago Robās response started with āno I did notā - potentially his intention was to mean that he did not enact constant and systemic abuse - I believe this.
In the decade since all this has happened, Rob has had opportunities to mature and grow and learn from his mistakes. He has taken those opportunities to heart. His maturation is evident. His understanding of current issues is clear. And I believe that he has learned from his mistakes. The above example notwithstanding, he has never tried to hide what he did or what happened.
Sure, his apology to the model came a decade late. But it happened, he doesnāt try to bullshit in it, he doesnāt make excuses or try to redirect blame. He takes the blame, accepts his wrongdoing, and encourages women to step forward with their stories no matter how long itās been.
And I think we can all agree itās a hell of a whole lot more than Hardwick has done at this point and probably ever will.
I have stuff to say about Rob but damn if words arenāt suddenly hard to work with because of this
Iāve struggled with this myself and have kept my thoughts to myself until today because of it.
I mean⦠the #MeToo movement is about holding powerful people accountable for how theyāve treated others, for how theyāve sexually harassed and abused people who had little recourse and were bullied into silence for so many years. I knew Kazinsky had the whole dick pic incident in his past because heās spoken of it before. I believed what he said about it, but⦠did I believe him just because I like him? How do I justify believing him when I fully believe victims that have come forward with their stories?
Itās entirely possible that Iām soft-soaping him because heās a favorite, and I didnāt want to do that. So I didnāt say anything because I didnāt want to sound like a hypocrite.
Now that heās issued his own public apology, though, Iām making myself look very closely at my motives here, and hereās what I think.
He was outed and humiliated for his actions AT THE TIME. He was suspended from and eventually left the #1 show in the UK because of it. It ruined his personal life and damn near destroyed his career. Heās said several times that it was stupid to send her a dick pic and he didnāt even know why he did it (never once acted like he HADNāT done it or tried to cover it up), but he heavily regretted it. He was ashamed of himself, ashamed that heād embarrassed his parents who were so proud of him, etc.
Isnāt that what the #MeToo movement is about? Making sure these abusers face consequences for what theyāve done to people?
Rob Kazinsky has spent a decade trying to rebuild his reputation and his career and hasnāt done anything like that since. He has done the work. And he definitely supports the outing of users and abusers and has for years. Heās been harassed by men in power positions himself, and heās standing with his girlfriend, Chloe Dykstra, while she tells her story about her abusive relationship.
I donāt want to soft-soap or erase what heās done, but he has paid greatly for it and has learned from it. Heās trying to support other people who have suffered from abuse.
And now, 11 years later, heās apologizing to the woman he wronged. Heās not making excuses. Heās not even pointing out that he already lived his consequences. Heās just plain apologizing.
I have to think thatās what the #MeToo movement is about. I have to think thatās the result we should be aiming for (although, for worse crimes like rape and physical abuse, there should absolutely be criminal consequences, like for Weinstein, Depp, et al.), right?
Or am I just rationalizing the situation because he seems like a sincere, genuine kind of guy and heās a nerd like us? I honestly donāt know.
But I THINK⦠heās trying to do the right thing and has been for over a decade.
Or maybe I just want to think that. I honestly donāt know.
@apulseinthepages itās all in regards to Chloe, Hardwick, and Robās past actions. Iām drafting my thoughts now and will post it when Iām done. Not sure if Rob will see it but weāll see.
I have stuff to say about Rob but damn if words arenāt suddenly hard to work with because of this
The fact that back when Pacific Rim had just premiered and a few months later Rob Kazinsky went to Pacific Rim fan-related events like that con in Atlanta (x, x) and the Pacific Rim: Training Day video (x) makes me so happy because heās said that the movie meant so much for him because it was his first important role in a long time and he just wanted to make the most of it while it lasted. He loved the movie as much as we did.
Rob is so pure and good
