We had another Easter weekend in lockdown in Manila, Philippines. Our school break travel plans ended up in cancellation again two years in a row. We felt very sad about it, but we understood that it had to be done. The positive part about this year is that it was with less anxiety. I remember how helpless it felt a year ago. Many people are coping with lockdown in various parts of the world right now. Importance of keep showing up. A hateful comment was left on my blog for the first time recently. I was taken aback to be on the receiving end of verbal abuse from a faceless perpetrator. I did my best to handle the distasteful experience without affecting myself emotionally. I also shared the harsh comment left on my blog on my Facebook community page.I received an outpouring of support from my followers in the Facebook community. I was completely blown away. This experience reminded me that there is more love and kindness than evil. Unfortunately trolls are not as uncommon as you may think. Thus, I have constructed a blog post to support and help others who may have experienced hate comments on their platforms. Before the event, I was actually working on a different post about a dive resort and also possibly another cafe. It's disheartening to hear the news and incidents of violence and abuse, physical or verbal, against Asians all over the world. The most recent news from Altanta shook the Asian communities in the U.S. Unfortunately, I read that violence and discrimination against Asians is nothing new in the U.S. In fact, it has been something that many Asians have tolerated for generations, not only in the U.S., but in Europe, Australia and some other parts of the world. I've been fortunate enough that everyone that I personally know has always been very kind to me. In a way I have been protected because of my marriage to my husband. That being said, I'm not foreign to it, either. While experiences that I had based on my race were simply unpleasant, what makes the issue different for me today is that I have 3 kids who hold Asian heritage. When you know that discrimination and other unfair treatment could affect your own especially because of what you gave to them, that hurts. If I could protect them, I would, but unfortunately, they have to know how to protect their own mind and heart. In this tough climate for Asians triggered by the spread of COVID, we all need to keep our dignity no matter what heartless acts are done to us. The time will pass. 世界から飛び込んでくるアジア人に対する差別的扱いや暴力による事件を聞くと、非常に心が痛みます。アトランタで起きた殺害事件はアメリカにおけるアジア人コミュニティーを震わせました。その後よく読むのは、アジア人蔑視は今に始まったことではないということ。実際、アメリカだけでなく、ヨーロッパ各地、オーストラリア、他の国々でアジア人に対する酷い扱いがあっても、何世代ものアジア人は耐えて来ました。私が個人的に知っている人たちは、常に私に親切ですし、私自身は非常に恵まれた環境で生きて来ました。ある意味、結婚を通し、私は守られているのだとも感じます。でも、アジア人に対する差別的行為は未知の世界でありません。差別的行為で嫌な思いを経験したことがありましたが、半分アジアの血を受け継ぐ子供を3人がいる今、アジア人蔑視は違った意味を持つように。自分が与えたものによって子供が差別を受けると思うと、とても辛いと感じます。守ってあげられるなら守ってあげたいですが、子供達は自分で自分の心を守れるようにならないといけません。コロナウイルスの世界的感染のせいで、アジア人に対して風当たりが強くなりましたが、どんなに心ない事を言われたりされたとしても、アジア人は威厳を失わず、誇りを持ち続けることが大切だと感じます。この時期もいずれ通り過ぎるのだから。 https://www.instagram.com/p/CMvlC0uJNrt/?igshid=g9tksyja8kos

I’d like to add to my previous post about our updates in Manila. It is concerning that several hospitals in Manila have been overwhelmed with COVID patients. I think about all the medical providers in Manila who are working very hard day in and day out. We all have to do our part to help the community as much as possible. In such a case, it's understandable that a sensible decision had to be made for Metro Manila to flatten the curve. I look at expats’ living abroad kind of similar to kids’ visiting their friends’ homes. When kids are in their friends’ homes, they need to respect the rules at their friends’. They can't go by the rules that they have at their own homes. If they don’t respect their friends' families' rules, they won’t be invited back. I feel like daydreaming now. Manila has restricted movements of children under 17 which has been the talk among friends in the past few days as you can imagine. I'm reminiscing about the wonderful adventure we had in Little Boracay Sandbar and Starfish Island in Calatagan, Batangas. It was not so long ago, but it feels as though it happened ages ago. March 3 is Girls' Day in Japan. Since March is a Women's History Month, I feel okay about keeping the Hina Dolls, Girls' Day Dolls after March 3 to celebrate womanhood with these dolls as well. Traditionally in Japan, though, people are supposed to put away the dolls as soon as the festivity is over on March 3. Otherwise, it's considered bad luck. It takes so long for me to put these dolls away since I have to wrap them all in tissue paper, I haven't been able to follow the tradition. When I was feeling badly about it several years ago, my friend from Ehime Prefecture told me that in Ehime, they celebrate Girls' Day on April 3 instead of March 3, so it would be okay to keep the dolls after March 3. That made me feel so much better. We all enjoy seeing these dolls. I'm a bit worried about dust, and humidity, so I may try to put them away soon. 雛祭りが終わりましたが、まだ雛人形を飾っています。3月は国際女性の月とされているので、雛人形を飾っていても話題のタネにもなるので、片付ける時間が見つかるまでそのままにしています。伝統を重んじるならすぐに片付けた方が良いことは分かってはいるのですが、仕舞うのにかなり時間がかかるのでつい後回しにしてしまいます。何年か前に3月3日過ぎても片付けていなくて恥ずかしいと思っていたら、愛媛出身のお友達が、愛媛では4月3日に雛祭りをするから大丈夫よ、と言ってくれて気が楽になったのを覚えています。それもあって未だに雛人形が出ています。見るのは楽しいですね。ただ、マニラの埃と湿気が気になるので、もうすぐ片付けようかなとは思っています。 https://www.instagram.com/p/CMa2q6sFol-/?igshid=1vwxoib8bqjsa

Our kitchen corner that I love. I recently reframed the photos from Okinawa that I purchased when I lived there. Looking back on the photos from the past, the frames before looked fine. The third photo is a before photo. I feel like I did some work that was unnecessary. I recognize that my judgement under pressure isn’t always as accurate as the normal time. Oh well. Good morning! I went through a phase where I lost interest in sharing much on Instagram and I was posting once a week. I didn't have much to say with my photos. Recently I want to share my photos especially of my current home because we will eventually have to say good-bye to this home and move on. When my motivation for sharing stagnated, I would take photos of my home intending to share, but I lost confidence in them and didn't share. I'm not trying to fish for any words from you. I'm just recognizing that sometimes you go through ups and downs of motivation. It seems that I'm emerging out of it and now I feel more interested in sharing photos of my home again. This is our usual view of our living room with my husband’s shoes and backpack after he gets home from work. It’s my happy sight. He used to travel once a month or so for work. There hasn’t been any business trips since January 2020. Despite the challenges, the silver lining of the pandemic for me was the change of our routine. The small painting I used to have there always made me feel that it was too small for the space. Finally I have a good size painting that I like there. I'm feeling grateful for this wonderful opportunity given to my family and myself to live in the Philippines. When you live abroad, it's not just about the place that you live in that makes your life special. It's also about the people you surround yourself with that make your life beautiful. I have always intended my Instagram account to be where people can come and get interior design inspirations. For Instagram purposes, it's better to have a consistent aesthetic. Despite my intention, though, my feed isn't always consistent. It's partly because I would also like to make my account to be a helpful source of information for expats and alike to learn about wonderful places I learn while living abroad. I feel conflicted and confused about how to manage this account these days. I had the best time traveling to a beach resort with my two girl friends and our kids in Batangas. Two of the 3 husbands (including mine) couldn't commit to come due to work unfortunately, thus 3 moms took the kids. Parents have got to entertain them while they can. It still blows my mind that you can drive for 3 hours from a mega city like Manila and reach a stunning beach like this. It feels like I have so much to share, but so little time. I have many backlogs. I plan on sharing more photos and information about our vacation in Calatagan, Batangas on my social media outlets and on my blog.
