“Have you ever heard the cheerio story?” Chandler asked, the smell of alcohol on his breath obvious. “So there were a family of cheerios. There was a dad cheerio, a mom cheerio, and two children cheerios. And they wanted to go out to dinner one night. So, like, they drove in their little cheerio car to the restaurant but traffic was bad and they had trouble finding the place. They tried to find a parking space, but like cities are shit for finding parking. Then they got lost. They went down one street, but it was the wrong street and then they kept trying to find it but ended up in the same place they started. So they stopped and asked someone for directions and this guy cheerio was like ‘Oh it’s near the theater’ and so they find the theater and then the restaurant and they go into the restaurant. The daughter cheerio wants mac and cheese, and the son cheerio wants chicken tenders. The mom cheerio decides she’s going to get pasta and then the dad cheerio picks steak. They ask how he wants his steak done and he tells them medium rare. So then they order drinks - which is backwards but whatever it’s a story about cheerios so that’s not the biggest issue here - and the mom orders wine and the dad orders beer and the kids both order punch. And the waiter tells them they have to stand in line for it. So the mom cheerio asks ‘Where is the line for the punch?’ and the waiter says ‘There is no punch line.’“
cainwallen:
“Listen very carefully,” he spoke as he put his hand on the persons shoulder, pushing them along with him as he walked along the side of the dark alley. “Someone is following,” now while he didn’t specify who, he knew that it would be best for them to tag along –– someone in danger always obeys. “You’ll be fine,” his scottish accent thick with his words. “Step by step. We’re going to round this corner and one more block and I’ll buy you a drink,” he said picking up pace. “How does that sound?”
Chandler jumped as he heard a man’s voice, and then had someone touching him out of nowhere. He was about to yell out in surprise, but his voice caught as he heard what was happening. Why would someone be following Chandler? His hand gripped on his camera bag and that was when he realized...he was walking around with an expensive camera and this wasn’t the best part of town. He wasn’t sure that following a stranger into a dark alley was the safest thing - for all Chandler knew, nobody was following them and this guy was actually trying to steal from him - but he offered to buy Chandler a drink, so the photographer decided to go with him. “Alright.” He nodded.
julianmoonier:
Julian smiled and nodded, mirroring the other by taking a second bite of his meal. “I don’t understand how you make this shit.” He admitted after a moment. “Like… I’ve tried to do this and I end up having to give up because I burn something first.” The fact that Chandler could just whip this up for him was unbelievable.
“I just follow the instructions.” Chandler shrugged. He didn’t see cooking as a difficult thing at all, but he also really enjoyed doing it. “And this wasn’t hard to make. I just made some sauce and cooked some noodles and fish.”
emmyfuk:
Looking down at her watch, the woman sighed, before raising her eyebrows. “Look, I have more important things to do with my day than be interviewed by the auto-shop tribune, can you get on with whatever you were going to ask me,” she huffed. She wasn’t being rude, she just had a schedule and she was already an hour behind. “Family,” she repeated, making a mental note of looking into it later. She could tell that he put it all together and she gave him a tight lined smile, extending her hand. “Emmy. I’m fucking your uncle. Wonderful to meet you.”
Chandler briefly glared at her. Why was she acting like he was beneath her? And why did she repeat the part about him being Roman’s family? Did Roman always hook up with girls that were this weird? As she extended her hand, he just stared at it for a moment. “Have you washed that hand yet?” He raised his eyebrow and looked at her.
juliet-richards:
“And you shouldn’t meet mine,” she retorted, rolling her eyes at the thought of anyone else remotely close to her life meeting her mother. It was like a nightmare just to think about. “Yeah, I used to be in school for it but now, I’m wasting away in Queens,” she laughed. “We’ll see. But how’s the shop going?”
Chandler chuckled at her response. “You probably shouldn’t meet mine either.” He smirked, then listened to her talk about being an artist. “That’s cool - going to school for it. Not the part where you’re wasting away.” As she asked about the garage, he shrugged. “Good. Busy. I think my temporary job has turned into a permanent one, so I might need to actually learn what the hell a piston is.”
taylorfknreagans:
Taylor took a long drag of her cigarette, wishing she’d brought a joint with her instead. Needless to say, she could really use one right now. Blowing out the smoke, she lifted her shoulders in a helpless gesture. “Kind of?” she admitted, shaking her head, “I don’t know. My head’s a fucking mess. And it’s not like I can talk to my dad about it, so…” Her words trailed off, and she stood silent. It was a total cliché, but her dad had always been there when she needed him. He never abandoned her, unlike her mom. "He should’ve told me that she came back. I’m just — I’m so fucking sick of him trying to protect me from the whole god damn world.”
It wasn’t a surprise Taylor was confused. Chandler had never been in a situation like that one before, but there had to be a lot of conflicting emotions about it. "What’s going on with your dad, anyways?” He knew something happened, and whatever it was caused Taylor to stop working at the garage. But nobody had filled him in. As Taylor complained about him being overprotective, Chandler shrugged. “There are worse things.” He quietly blurted out, although he instantly regretted it. This wasn’t a competition, and Chandler didn’t want to turn it into one. He took another drag from his cigarette. “Shit, ignore that. You’re right, anyways. He should have told you.”
romanreagans:
Roman sighed. “I know. And I’m so sorry that happened to you,” he lamented, his voice calm and sincere. Needless to say, he would sing a different tune if he ever were to come face to face with his half-brother again. “I know he’s your dad, but if he can’t act like a father does the title mean anything? Family can be toxic too, and you don’t need that kind of shit in your life… Yeah, he’s your dad, but he’s also a grown man who should be able to differentiate between right and wrong. That’s not on you, kid, that’s not your responsibility. And it sure as hell ain’t your fault this happened to you.” Tilting his head, he slowly and gently placed his hand on Chandler’s shoulder. “Look, I’m sorry I yelled at you. I shouldn’t have done that. I’ve been dealing with a lot of crap lately, you know, with work, your cousin and… her mom showing up outta the blue.” He hadn’t exactly planned on telling his nephew about Mary Lou just yet, but given the circumstances, he felt the need to explain himself. “Regardless, that’s no excuse. I took it out on you, and for that I’m sorry. But please know that I would never ever do anything to hurt you.” Chandler had already said he knew that, but Roman needed to make it perfectly clear that he would never be like John.
Chandler didn’t tell many people about his dad, or about Madison. Majority of the times someone found out he’d been abused, they told him they were sorry. It was a normal reaction, what people were supposed to say when they heard something like that, but it never felt normal to hear. Still, he nodded after Roman said it. His eyes found his uncle’s again as Roman suggested John being his dad didn’t mean much. It was backwards, but from a young age Chandler was the one taking care of his parents. His dad was an alcoholic and his mom - well, he had no idea what was wrong with his mom. But Chandler understood what Roman said next. None of this was Chandler’s fault. “I know.” He finally agreed with his uncle. “They’re both unstable, and that’s on them. Not me.” As Roman apologized for yelling, Chandler shrugged. He listened to the list of things he already knew about. “It’s fine - Tay told me about Mary Lou. I know you’re not going to hurt me, it just, I don’t know, sometimes it’s not a problem and sometimes it freaks me out a little”

Chandler studied Julian as he reacted to the implication. “I cant pay the rent here either. Its not a problem” He shrugged, then placed some of the scoglio onto his own plate. “I usually just throw what I can Noah’s way. But I talked to him, I mean obviously I made sure he was okay with another roommate and he knows you can’t work yet. So dont even worry about it. Just focus on getting better” Chandler rambled, slightly nervous even though he was pretty sure Julian had already agreed to it
Julian watched the other’s reaction to his words, almost waiting for him to take back the offer of moving in… but then he didn’t. He didn’t take it back, and so Julian was left staring, surprised that Chandler wasn’t paying rent either. “Then… yeah. That would be really great.” He admitted as a smile slowly grew back onto his face. He knew Connor would let him live with him for as long as he needed, but he also didn’t want to keep imposing himself and taking Connor’s room. At least now he’d have his own space, and when he did get a job he’d give Noah what he could to help cover at least a little bit.
Chandler was grinning. So was Julian. This was such a happy moment! Chandler thought of pulling out some champaign to celebrate but he didnt have any and Julian couldnt drink. "We're gonna be roommates." He pointed out, taking a bite of pasta and smiling around his fork
chvndlcr:
“Wait,” Chandler grinned. Julian was saying yes! Chandler was thrilled and, despite the fact he hadn’t even served himself yet, he got up and quickly walked to the key ring near the entrance. He returned a moment later with a keychain containing two keys on it and placed it on the table next to his friend’s plate. “Speaking of you coming in and out,” He started as he sat down. “I mean, the room has a bed in it already. You might as well use it, right?“
Julian watched as Chandler got up and left but he instead turned his attention to the food, taking a bite of it. Damn, Chandler could cook. He knew that already, but it had been forever since he had food like this, and he’d missed it. “That’s a cool keychain.” He said as he picked it up, looking up at Chandler as he said that he should just use the bed. It then clicked what Chandler was asking, and his smile faltered just a little bit. “I can, yeah…” He started, hesitating. “I can’t pay any rent though… I’m not allowed to work yet.”
Chandler studied Julian as he reacted to the implication. "I cant pay the rent here either. Its not a problem" He shrugged, then placed some of the scoglio onto his own plate. "I usually just throw what I can Noah's way. But I talked to him, I mean obviously I made sure he was okay with another roommate and he knows you can't work yet. So dont even worry about it. Just focus on getting better" Chandler rambled, slightly nervous even though he was pretty sure Julian had already agreed to it
julianmoonier:
Julian had completely avoided mentioning to the other that the last time this kind of meal happened, they ended up making out behind Chandler’s girlfriend’s back. Not even a month later, and Julian was in the hospital. He pushed that out of his mind as Chandler started explaining, and Julian blinked, surprised at the offer. “Oh.” He said, not really meaning to, before actually continuing. “Actually yeah, uhm… that would be really great. As long as you guys are okay with me coming back and forth to paint.”
You might as well use it, right?"
julianmoonier:
“Oh right.” Julian said with a bit of a nod, watching him set the food on the table. He reached for the serving spoon and started putting some on his plate, laughing a little bit at his words. “Connor’s not as bad as me but you’re right.” They ate a lot of pizza and take out. “Oh, right.” He said again, glad that his eyes were on the food when the other spoke of last time Chandler cooked for him. It was still a fresh memory… one of the only big things that had happened before he went into the coma. “You did?” He asked curiously, trying to snap himself out of that as he looked at his friend again.
It had been two years, and Chandler was in the early stages of a very confusing relationship at the time. The last few times he and Julian had seen each other were all one giant blur, although Chandler knew they made out - and that Chandler had cheated on Madison - the last time they saw each other. What he couldn’t remember as well as Julian was that the last time they’d had a meal like this was the same day they made out. “Well, I know you don’t really have your own space at Connor’s, and that you can’t do much with screens and sports.” Chandler's eyes stayed on Julian as he spoke. “So, I was thinking, Noah and I have an extra room nobody’s using. What if you did your art over here?”
julianmoonier:
Julian frowned at the word. “That sounds like a spine disorder.” He commented, but as the other said it was seafood pasta, he immediately smiled. “That sounds great, actually. Definitely not a spine disorder.” As Chandler motioned to the table, he sat down and watched as his friend went to get the food. “That’s fine, don’t worry about it. Thanks for making dinner in the first place.” He didn’t know what had prompted him to offer, but he didn’t want to question it, and Julian was so tired of being cooped up in Connor’s apartment.
“That’s scoliosis” Chandler corrected his friend, although as he said the condition out loud he heard the resemblance Julian was referring to. After setting the food on the table, Chandler sat down and nodded in recognition of Julian thanking him for the meal. “Not a problem. Connor can’t cook, so I figure you haven’t had a decent meal since the last time I cooked for you.” That had been two years ago now, but Chandler didn’t mention the time because he knew it didn’t feel like two years for Julian. “But I had another reason. I wanted to talk to you about something”
juliet-richards:
“Yeah,” she replied calmly, always finding it difficult to communicate with someone she was previously a bitch to. It wasn’t in her job description to be nice but here she was still trying. “Well that’s good. I could only imagine crazy to be good,” she nodded along. “You’ve got your hands full it seems, but yeah –– I’ve been good. I quit the art gallery so I’ve been painting a lot more. Trying to find something I like. I’ve been dabbling with computers and what not. Nothing too interesting.”
She could only imagine crazy being a good thing? “You should meet my mom then,” slipped out before he could stop himself. She started talking about painting, which he wasn’t sure he knew about her, and it reminded him of Julian. “Oh my roommate is really into painting too.” Chandler responded, not realizing she knew him. “It’s good that you’ve been able to do more of that, though.”
taylorfknreagans:
Taylor sighed, realizing she was not making any sense at all due to the chaos in her mind. Shaking her head, the brunette tried to explain it from scratch. “Alright. Two years ago, she showed up at our house in Detroit, My dad, well, he wouldn’t let her see me so he slammed the door in her face. Guess I got the shit end of the stick there too because he never told me about it,” she huffed. “So, fast forward to a couple of days ago… I had been running some errands in the city and I walked past a poster with my mom’s face on it. All this time I thought she was still living in L.A… But as it turns out, she was doing a show on Broadway, so I was dumb enough to sneak into the fucking theatre to have look. She recognized me so I ran outta there like a scared little kid and wound up at the diner next door. Didn’t know my mom would drop by there after the show, but she did and — well, we started talking.” Exhaling, she then smacked her lips. “Yep. That should just about cover it.”
Chandler glanced down and flicked his cigarette with his thumb while he listened to his cousin. He frowned at her first reveal...Roman had stopped her from seeing her mom? Chandler wasn’t sure how to feel about that. It sounded like Roman had her best interest in mind, but Taylor was seventeen two years ago and old enough to decide if she wanted to see her mom or not. Chandler followed most of the second part of the story, especially the part where they started talking. “So do you want to see her again?” He asked gently, trying to understand if she was upset because of her mom, her dad or a combination of the two.
romanreagans:
It didn’t take a genius to see that this was a topic his nephew would rather avoid talking about. And while Roman was relieved that Chandler felt comfortable enough to tell him the truth, the answer made his blood boil once again. But his anger wasn’t aimed at Chandler this time. It was aimed at Chandler’s dad, a sorry excuse of a man who also happened to be Roman’s half-brother. He never should’ve believed John when he said he’d quit drinking. He should’ve known better than to believe an addict, and now he’d just found out that his nephew had been the one to suffer for it. “Son of a bitch…” he muttered under his breath. If only he’d known about this sooner. But as Chandler continued, he realized why he’d been left in the dark. Had he known about this, he would’ve pulled Chandler out of that house years ago. “Are you kidding me? He never should have done anything to begin with,” he scoffed, struggling to understand why Chandler would defend him like that.
As Roman swore, Chandler finally made eye contact with him. He didn’t seem to understand why Chandler was defending his dad and, honestly, Chandler didn’t either. It just happened. “You’re right.” Chandler sighed. When he was younger, still living with his parents, Hannah would regularly tell him that what his dad did was wrong. At the time, Chandler thought he understood. He knew what happened was illegal, and that it wasn’t his fault. But now that he hadn’t been living there for years, he’d been able to process just how deeply that shit had affected him. “But what should have happened doesn’t matter. It still happened.” He ran his hand through his hair and his eyes trailed to the floor again. “He was a shit parent, but he’s still my dad.”
