He was so cold and tired.
How long had he been lying there, helplessly watching his Lord fight on after his embarrassing slaying? It felt like ages of slow torment. He'd seen Nnoitra collapse in a wave of ebony hair and blood, and there was NOTHING he could do about it. He couldn't run to his side, or take the brunt of the hit for him, nor speak to him as he fell to the ground, quite possibly succeeding in his dream of dying before he even hit the ground.
His vision blurred, as Nnoitra's silhouette hit the ground, and Tesla wept for him, despite himself.
It was shortly after the silence fell, after that accursed Shinigami and his companions had left them for dead to fight elsewhere, that Tesla had decided that enough was enough. He'd let go of what little he'd been holding on to in hopes that his Espada would have won and perhaps taken him from here to heal, or at least make use of Tesla's pathetic hide and eat him for nourishment.
For without Nnoitra, what truly did he have left?
His vision had already been failing him, limbs cold and sand sticking to the aching exposed guts and gore of his left side. It would be as simple as closing his eye... if there was nothing, after this, he hopes his Master would be happy, finally. If there was something, after this, then he prays he'll be right there to listen to his Lord complain about it.
Tesla isn't sure how much time has passed, since then. He isn't sure if he's even still alive, by some miracle. He's likely delirious from bloodloss, fading in and out of images and memories in his mind between the dark void that he hopes is death, but after some time, some unknowable period of solitude of illusion, something pierces through; it's faint but familiar, commanding despite the small spark it was.
It ignites him, at least, his lips parting slightly as he wheezes from the sudden rush of actually trying to breathe. His left lung is useless, cut clean through but his right... well, it would have to do. He'd will it to. He had to respond, even if the voice he heard wasn't real--
He wouldn't dare open his eye just yet, he couldn't bear the thought of this being another delusion and waking up alone and on the edge of death.
