Submission for the @fireflies-of-the-setting-sun zine!
I really really want to thank everyone who put together this zine. In fandom spaces, it is overwhelming how little love and attention queer women get. Great God Grove is a very special game to me, and one of the main factors is how it positively portrays women and lesbian relationships in all of their different shapes, sizes and forms. To be able to display my gratitude for this game and the wonderful community surrounding it and coming together to appreciate women is something I am incredibly grateful and proud to be able do.
Expect more pieces from me for this zine >:3

This June, as we seem to sit in a world of chaos and great demand for social change, it is a pride month in which it is hard to ignore the work and life of Marsha P. Johnson. Many of us know her name as an early and fearless leader LGBTQ+ movement, and we recognize her beautiful ear to ear smile adorned in red lipstick and shining with positivity. But in all of her legendary efforts for the queer community, to understand Marsha is to understand her not only the light she brought to her life but also the controversy of her death. (MinnieMuse)
In the early morning of June 28, 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn. Local members of the gay community fought back when the police became violent. Johnson was regarded as one of the “Vanguards;” those who pushed back against the police. In 1987, reflecting back on the Stonewall uprising, Johnson recalled arriving at around 2 in the morning shortly after the riots had started and the Stonewall building was aflame. The riots reportedly started at around 1:20 that morning after Stormé DeLarverie fought back against the police officer who attempted to arrest her that night. (GNOF.org)
On July 6, 1992, Johnson’s body was found floating in the Hudson River near the West Side Piers that she frequented. While the police declared her death a suicide, many see her death as another moment of violence against the LGBTQ community. Now, even decades after Johnson’s devastating death, her legacy continues to impact queer communities. (Faulkner Morgan Archive)
